I smell Thanksgiving vs. the Felons.
You
always smell the Thanksgiving game. Last year it was against the Lions. FOX and CBS always schedule this game against national-draw teams, regardless of how good the Cowgirls and Lions are.
Cowgirls T-giving games, last three seasons: Chicago ('04), Miami ('03), Washington ('02).
Lions T-giving games, last three seasons: Indy ('04), Green Bay ('03), New England ('02).
Miami was a playoff team, as were all three of the Detroit opponents. Washington is one of the biggest rivalries in sport, and there was the first year of the Spurrier regime. The networks have nothing to gain by putting on "garbage" opponents in these games, just because there isn't an alternative for audiences other than to turn off the TV and spend time with families. I think that they do try and schedule good teams, because there's no profit in showing a half-empty stadium on Thanksgiving, and they need a good draw to fill up the teams' respective houses on one of the biggest holidays of the year.
The national games will come when the Cardinals start earning respect and interest. When the Cards showed some heartbeat after the 7-9 season, we had a couple nationally-televised games, and we promptly burned ESPN by being one of the worst teams in the NFL that season.
