This past weekend I went and saw Mobile play the Jax Suns. I don't get a chance to see the MLB team very often so I take the opportunity to watch the minor league teams when I can.
A couple of observations...Nick Ahmed is sloppy at the plate, he lunges and his swing is UGLY. He is pretty slick in the field though.
RF Cleven has a heck of an arm and good range, he also looked OK at the plate.
3B Nick Evans and 1B Jon Griffin looked pretty good.
SP Zack Spruill looked alright as starting pitcher, looking at his stats it seems like he gets zero run support (his ERA is sub 2 but he has 3 losses). He wasn't overpowering (91 on the gun was the highest I saw) but he seemed to have good movement and location.
SP Anthony Meo is a train wreck, he did not allow a hit the first couple of innings but to me that was deceiving. They were hitting him hard but foul...when they finally straightened out their bats he was toast. The relievers were even worse, they gave up 5 HRs in yesterdays game.
I'm no scout but this AA team does not seem anywhere near as strong as the team I saw last year...I am guessing a lot of talent moved up to AAA.
