Doesn't this forum already have regular contributers? Where is that money going? What about the ad revenue? Why isn't some of that money being used to update this antiquated site? Just curious because I have not seen it posted anywhere that this site isn't making money or struggling to make ends meet.

If that is the case I wish there were more options versus the required 18.95 per year. I contribute on other sites that allow any amount at any given time. It's weird that some of those sites also have more bells and whistles.

Would it be possible to allow more flexibility with donations?

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to answer each point.

Yes, about 25 or so. Plus all admins/mods are listed as paid contributors for volunteering time to keep the board clean in lieu of actually paying.

The money goes to server/bandwidth and support costs. Just to keep the site running and to allow the owners to make a return on the cash they invested to buy the site.

It has been. There has been less site downtime during game days. They added vbstopforumspam to prevent known spammers from registering, and even in this thread somebody asked for tapatalk and we got it.

You have to understand a little history of this site. We were spoiled when Skkorp (RIP) owned it. He paid for everything out of his own pocket and would not hear of advertising or subscriptions.

Unfortunately, the site had to be sold after he passed and it is now owned by a for-profit company.

Keebali seems to have nice folks, but they would drop us like third-period French if the site started to go in the red. Financially the site is fine now. Not Facebook or Google but it above water for the time being.

Well, anything is possible, but I don't see why they would pay someone to develop an alternative payment method for just one person. I mean that is $1.50 a month or 2 days worth of gas or the cost of a delivered pizza. How much cheaper are you thinking?

Knowing some friends who have run sites I already had a pretty good idea how much a site can generate in ad revenue and the cost to run them. I have been a mod on a couple sites. I am not sure how much was paid for the site but my guess paying it off is likely not a hindrance.

Sort of my point. One person could manage paying for the site just like buddies of mine that owned their own sites (gaming, technology forums etc..). Again, have a pretty good idea.

Now they have a site generating ad revenue with a small but dedicated group of people contributing. Get the entire making a profit goal but past owners I have worked with still managed to eek out a profit just fine.

Granted I have no clue the situation is here and the finances might be much tighter. I can appreciate that.

It's not the cost as much as the subscription model. Not everybody likes the subscription model. For example, on a gaming forum my buddy ran we did the same thing and used to average about 15 contributers.

As soon as we gave options of "one time", "Monthly" and "yearly" we had seen our contribution rates double. That was really my point and not so much the cost factor. Our most popular contribution method was "one time". Just food for thought.
