Now that the season is over, it's time to get into the mock draft season. I think we all have a fairly good idea of what the Cards needs are and I've tried to use those as the basis for this mock:

Round 1: Dante Fowler, OLB, Florida: He should give the Cards their pass rushing force for years to come. He has the size, speed, and athleticism to excel as an edge rusher in the NFL.

Round 2: TJ Yeldon, RB, Alabama: A perfect compliment to Ellington and would allow Ellington to return the more effective role he occupied as a rookie. Yeldon has been a 3 year starter and has nice pass catching skills as well. He'd be a steal in round 2.

Round 3: D'joun Smith CB, Florida Atlantic: My preferred choice is Kevin Johnson from Wake Forest but he'll likely be gone. Smith is no slouch in his own right. He's a ball hawk who can also support the run. He had 7 ints in 2013 and was the team's MVP.

Round 4: Stefon Diggs, WR, Maryland: A great all purpose threat in the Percy Harvin mold. He can be the player the Cards thought they were getting when they signed Ted Ginn. He has the speed and elusiveness to score every time he touches the ball. Durability is an issue.

Round 5: Jake Ryan, ILB, Michigan: There's a later round player every year that I really want the Cards to draft and this year it's Ryan. I think he can be a force at ILB now that he has rounded back into form from his knee injury 2 years ago.

Round 6: Aundrey Walker, OG, USC: He's been injury prone with ankle issues but he's a highly talented player with a ton of upside. He's also big enough to back up at OT if needed but could be a force on the interior OL.

Round 7: Noah Spence, OLB, Ohio State: He's absolutely worth taking a flyer on in the late rounds. He's not only a 1st round talent but a top half of the 1st round talent. However, his multiple failed drug tests(Ecstasy) will probably lead him to be undrafted. He's a good kid that just needs to mature and is similar in that way to Honey Badger.

Not a bad draft except for your 6 and 7
why not
RD 6.Sean Mannion QB Oregon State-Cards need to be like GB and get a QB to develop with Logan Thomas (who I think will end up at TE eventually)
RD7.Devin Gardner WR-RB Michigan-versatile player who can be a RB or WR and played QB at Michigan.A jack of all trades to have available.
RD7.

I can see Mannion as a late round developmental type(actually I'd hope TB comes to their senses and lowers the asking price for Glennon and the Cards swing a trade).

I can't see any NFL future for Gardner at any position. Unlike Denard Robinson, I don't think he has the skills to be a RB and doesn't have the quicks to be a WR. Most QB's that transition to WR in the NFL are the smaller, quicker guys like Randle-el, Hines Wards, Bert Emanuel, etc. Gardner is 6'4.

I'm not shocked and I think Yeldon is the perfect compliment to The Duke.

Really have nothing against Yeldon pick. I should have put the Duckjake curse on my post. You know how he felt about that.... most recent.... JJ Arrington, Ryan Williams.

Fowler by himself makes it a good draft, but I also dont think he makes it to us. Calhoun just went back to school today, so the 1st round got 1 man thinner on pass rushers.

Yeldons a good pick, although Id prefer Tevin Coleman if we spend a 2nd rounder on a RB

I like the Jake Ryan pick

I like Coleman as well but he'll probably be gone by time the Cards pick in round 2.

I'm good with the plan to take OLB in first round and an RB in the second round. From what I understand management isn't high on any QBs that would be available by the time our pick comes up. With that being the case I wouldn't mind bringing in Mannion or Washington St's Halliday as a late round pick or UFA to get a look at and let Bruce see if he can do anything with them. CB might also be a position to pick up if Cromartie is not back.

I would take Brent Hundley, UCLA, QB if he is available to us.
Maybe in round 5 or below. I've tried to like him but he's just not that good. I don't think he brings much more to the table, if as much, as Logan Thomas.

I really like Fowler. I thought he stood out as by far the best player on Florida's defense. If he is there when we pick, i would grab him. This would be a good year to spend a second on a RB. Four good, big running backs this year. I could see Gurley, Yeldon, Allen, and Coleman making it big. I'm still learning about some of the lower round picks, so I'll take your word for it.

Nice work 52. Good athletes for positions that fit what the Cards need to get deeper at.

Ryan Williams, J.J. Arrington, Leeland McElroy, Chuck Levy, Tony Jeffery, Theotis Brown, George Franklin, James Germany, Bob Jackson (1962) is as far back as I'm going to research the 2nd rd RB's picked by the Cards.

Seriously, an atrocious list and I understand why none of this matters with BASK now in charge and all the other logical arguments why we shouldn't live in the past but let's just not irritate the FB gods and simply wait to take a RB until the 3rd rd.

Terdell Middleton, Terry Metcalf, Charlie Pittman are the 3rd rd RB's taken during the same time period. Terdell was traded to the Packers before playing for the Cards but he did play for 7 years in the NFL and made a Pro Bowl.

All this tells me we should wait until the 3rd rd to pick a RB this year. Certainly a very good one will fall to us.

For RBs -- I like David Cobb of Minnesota. Bigger than Yeldon and likely there in the third.
