Superbowl starts Monday Night, where we usually end up beating ourselves on National TV. If we want to compete with the big boys, if we want to say there's a new mental state, Monday Night is everything. We are lucky to start off at home, we usually dog it in these games, but we need to set the tone loud and clear if we want to be considered contenders. San Diego is no dog, and they have a giant Tight End, our biggest weakness. For every Monday Night game we've won, we've lost 2, or something like that. The Bears game... we won't go there.
We are talking San Diego, known as "America's Finest City", or the whale's vagina. They don't bang with the best in the NFCWest but they did make the playoffs last year (Wildcard) where they beat the red headed step child and then got ran by Denver, or at least that's what I remember. Bengals are tough, Chargers beat the Bengals in the playoffs, granted the Chargers were playing at home. Rivers threw a TD and sported a 75% completion rate, Dalton had more than twice as many passing yards (334), but had 2 picks to go with his TD. Chargers won by winning the turnover battle, time of possession, and running the ball.
Our No Fly Zone will come into play, but it might have to literally come in to play. With the giant superstar Tight End once again being a huge focus, along with a running game, playing anything resembling a prevent or deep cover with get you sliced up between their RBs and Rivers quick routes. They are patient on offense. This game will test our LB situation, and our running defense. Pressure on Rivers only works if we cover his quick routes.
Our offense, I have no idea and I think BA wants it that way. Receivers will be running wild, it all comes down to Palmer. BA figured out through out last year that a more balanced game plan relieved pressure on Palmer. If Palmer is accurate on Monday I see us winning this game, if Palmer isn't accurate on Monday, I know he will still play to win the game. Ellington has to be utilized, but RB rotation has to happen in a way that still disguises the run. Meaning Ellington is going to have to go up the middle, so they don't just key off on him from the outside with lane containment. I can't wait to see Lil Bit on Monday Night, we could be in for a show.
