Isn't that song about "nothing that can save you from death and the cold, hard facts of life." How could that possibly relate to CP?:D

A little too close for comfort, don't you think? QB's are football royalty but neither wealth nor fame will protect you when your time comes due. His numbers are down and if he doesn't turn it around soon, his number will be up.

Part of the problem is the 0 backfield strategy---which accelerates Palmer's decision making because he senses he has to play hot potato.

Fortunately, Palmer had more time than he thought this week---but he was still playing like he had to get the ball out as quick as 1---2---throw, when 1----2---3---throw would have opened larger windows.:

I'm seeing this too Mitch. Right now Palmer reminds me of Warner in his early games with the Cards (and yes he sucked quite often then).

Their style is to read the defense and decide on where the balls going prior to the snap, rarely going to the 2nd or 3rd options. When the timing is not there that's one problem. Even worse is when you couple the lack of time (or even the perceived lack of time) with the fact that receivers and the QB are yet to be on the same page it's a recipe for disaster.

We'll start to see better play soon, film doesn't lie and I'm certain coaches are pointing out where the breakdown in reading the defense (QB and receivers), route running, route depths, etc. With confidence the game slows down and Palmer's trigger finger will begin to coincide with proper timing.

Enjoyed the read Mitch, loved the Airplane reference JTS!

Dayam Mitch-----just when I think that there is NO way you can get more innovative or informative, you do!!!! I can't imagine how you do it, but keep it up Buddy. This stuff is REALLY good and fun to read as well. Seems like week after week this staff has snuffed out another little fire, and replaced it with something the Cards can take to the bank. I think we are just about on schedule to play with the big dogs. Even if we don't happen to win, I bet we scare the crap out of them up there in the fog and all. I can't think of a better spy for Kaepernic than D-Wash. This could be a lot of fun.

One can only hope that you are about to run out of superlatives.

1. FOX PAW (Faux Pas)

Man, it was tough to sit there in the pre-game and hear the FOX crew gushing all over the 1-2 Panthers for the vast majority of their segment and then basically scoff at and quickly dismiss the Cardinals' chances.

Funny, how by the 4th quarter they were now talking about how Cam Newton is something like 2-10 in close games, then lauding the dominance of the Cardinals' defense and finally drawing close attention to the venerable coaching staff that BA has assembled.

2. D--LIGHTFUL

This was a defensive game for the ages---a Rembrandt---in colorful Jackson Pollack-like splashes of red, white and black (with tinctures of pink thrown in).

Have we seen such a dominant second half performance? I mean, ever?

These swarming Cardinals chased and harassed Newton and his receivers like mad crows.

A shout-out to the Big Crows---DOCK, CAMBY, TA-AMMO (this big boy has feet and some bounce, doesn't he?), D-WILL, MUTHA-RUCKA & TALLY MONKEY. They be bringing da chowdah and da hammah.

3. DYNAMIC DUO

D-Wash is Batman and K-Danz is Robin. WHAM, BAM, THANK YOU CAM!

Is there a more versatile duo of inside linebackers in the league?

In this pass happy league---these are the kind of new age linebackers you want. They can chase, they can finish, they can cover, they can pick off passes and boy oh boy can they get to the QB. In this game---how about the execution of the timing of their blitzes---especially Dansby how he delayed for a 1-1,000 count and then looped up like a Lexus RX350 up the free lane.

4. BLANKET COVERAGE

Peterson is en fuego---especially now that he's playing such fine technique, sans the holding and straight-arming. He looks in total command out there.

How about Jerraud Powers' textbook "off-coverage" (playing with cushion) on the go-routes?

Mathieu---sticking to slot WRs like the Honey Badger that he is.

Bell---much stickier this week.

5. Z-STUD, J-FREE and J-"Crystal" BETH

As clutch as Walter White.

6. DUKE ELLINGTON

Well, maybe not a Duke yet---but certainly Prince Ellington with "The Duke" in his hands.

He's become the darling and the personality of this personality lacking offense.

7. INVISIBLE MEN

Fitz, Housler, Roberts, Brown, Sperry---O for October thus far in second halves.

Ground control to Major Housler---did you happen to see his face in the huddle before the very play that Palmer hit him in the hand while Houlser was running his own route somewhere between Saturn and Uranus? If you have the tape---it's worth looking at. Dude's eyes are rolling around in their sockets like bees outside a hive. Talk about Lost in Space.

8. ROBERT PALMER

Throwing interceptions: "Simply Irresistible."

What's most worrisome---is when he throws them----on first or second downs with the team driving, when you don't have to force the ball.

Look---it's great he is taking shots at the end zone---but the plays have to be there.

The flea flicker---totally mistimed by Floyd---he should have sold run on the CB, then run his go-route. But still, Palmer can't under-throw the ball like that---what, all for a "jump ball"? You can get that easier any time you want by running Fitz as a decoy up the middle to occupy the FS.

The Kuechly gift---just like the pass versus the Saints where he panicked and threw wildly to Dray over the right hash. Just horrible and totally careless.

The tight window to Fitz---it was first down for crying out loud. The FS was sitting on it. A veteran QB has to read that. He HAS to.

Part of the problem is the 0 backfield strategy---which accelerates Palmer's decision making because he senses he has to play hot potato.

Fortunately, Palmer had more time than he thought this week---but he was still playing like he had to get the ball out as quick as 1---2---throw, when 1----2---3---throw would have opened larger windows.

The best news---two weeks in a row Palmer held it together and got the job done late. It's a crazy game---to think that Tony Romo passed for over 500 yards and all those TD's yesterday---but he couldn't deliver when the team needed it most and threw the pick that cost his team the win.

I've been saying this and I will keep on saying it---Carson Palmer needs to be be re-taught how to win. It's been too long---and there's been too many bonehead decisions on his part.

Hopefully---Carson will re-learn what it takes, and then we might as well face it, he will be addicted to winning. Usually you get the girl in those situations too. For me, any of those tall brunettes swinging electric guitars with their hair slicked back and shiny red lipstick gleaming in the lights will do.

9. WOO PIG SOOWIE

Yes, he's a Rebel, John H, not a Razorback, but if it's SEC it's all good---and Bradley Sowell played like a good ol' hog at LT yesterday. It was a good start---the proof was that for the first time in many many games I actually took my eyes off the LT position during pass plays.

How about the Mendenhall TD? What a superb down block that was by Sowell, and an equally impressive scrape and block the ILB maneuver by the unsung Lyle Sendlein. That was a HUGE play. Not to be under-estimated or taken for granted, that's for dang sure.

10. GOLD MINING

Even though the Niners looked impressive yesterday versus the reeling Texans---this time is as good as any to be panning for gold in SF. Willis has a groin issue---Aldon Smith is doin' the rehab---the WR situation is down---and Kaepernick has looked at time like a player who hasn't started a full season yet. If we can somehow match their physicality on the o-line---and I hear a jumbo package awaits with D-WILL and TA-AMMO both covering the guards---this could get interesting. Peterson takes Boldin and D-Wash takes the prima donna TE. Who knows? Maybe Carson's recent familiarity with the Golden Gate is the bridge to a stunning discovery----that the Cardinals are FOR REAL in 2013.:newcards:

Fitz may not have been the old Fitz but his mere presence in the lineup changes how the defense sets up. He is still double team sometimes and can still outjump most defenders. He never gets the credit he deserves for his downfield blocking. If there is a play near him he will likely be in it somehow. Other than that I enjoyed your post as usual. Who is the best guy we signed in the off season and this does not include draft picks? If it is not Dansby he has to be close. He is much faster than I remember him and seems like a player on a mission.

Sorry if you were offended. I'm just having a great time celebrating what this staff and this team has accomplished. This team is 3-2 in the W/L column, after three games on the road, (two to the eastern time zone). About the best that most prognosticators had given them by this time was to be 1-4. Do we have a lot of work to do, (emphatically yes). Do we have cause to feel good about what has already been accomplished, (even more so). Lighten up and celebrate a little. This team has earned it.

We have near perfect special teams, and a really good defense. The offense is making strides and gradually fixing problems. What's not to like?

Not offended. Just find the constant genuflecting after each Mitch piece a bit over the top.

I can remember a time not so long ago when almost everyone here would have immediately recognized that Jeff was re-writing the classic scene in Airplane where Beaver's mom (played by Desertdawg) offered to translate. "Excuse me stewardess, I speak jive". I guess the younger people here are too young to recognize the scene and the older crowd is too old to recall it.

Well played JTS.

Steve

Must be an age thing I got it right away. Maybe you have to be over 45 to remember that movie?

Arians inherited the special teams and Bowles inherited much of the defense. I wasn't one of those ripping Bowles early, and I'm not praising him now beyond he's smart enough to realize we have to bring the heat to cover our DL's lack of pass rush, and I think Honey playing more and Rashad less has improved our coverage. Getting D Wash back helped the LB crew.

As for the offense, it's getting worse not better, I think it WILL get better but right now guys are very confused.

WindCardinal: Cutty say 'e can't HANG!

JTS (relieved): Oh, good!

desertdawg: He said that our offensive core hasn’t scored in the second half in two games and he wants you all to know it too.

JTS (finally understanding): All right. Would you tell him to just relax and I'll be happy to write a translation?

desertdawg: [to Mitch] Jus' hang loose, blood. JTS gonna catch ya up on da rebound on da write side.

WindCardinal (angry with JTS): What it is, big chompers? My mama no raise no dummies. I dug that rap!

desertdawg: Cut The Shark some slack, Jack! Chump don' want no help, chump don't GET da help!

Mitch: Say 'e can't hang, say seven up!

desertdawg: Jive-ass dude don't got no brains anyhow…

When I see someone on this board put up as good a post as Mitch has, then I will reply accordingly, but until then this is as good as I've seen.

That is pretty insulting to the other posters on the board.

There are dozens of posts as good, more insightful, and concise daily.

And all, from Mitch on down are appreciated.

But it is what it is - a fan board. Mitch's prognocations, while definatly better than anything I could put together, are no better or worse than many other posters. His analysis has been right, and WAYY wrong in the past.

So Catfish isnt entitled to his opinion in re: to Mitch 's posts, because his praise of them are hurtful to others?

I don't always agree with what Mitch has to say either-----Just ask him and he will tell you. We couldn't have been more in disagreement with him over Brian St.Pierre. That doesn't mean that I don't like his posts, or how he relates them to us. Nor does it diminish how I think of him.

I happen to believe that he is the best on this board. His style and clarity is what I would someday hope to be able to accomplish. I'll not apologize for that. Ever once-in-a-while he goes over the top with some gimmicky diatribe. Just show's his versatility in my opinion.

Plenty of times over the last 3 years. The difference is that last year the great defensive performances were overlooked because the Cards didn't win because the offense was so putrid.

How soon we forget that the D held the Patriots who scored 557 points to finish as the #1 scoring offense in the NFL in 2012 to 18 points.

But this year's defense has surprised me. I never thought they could be this effective with all the new players especially in the secondary.

New players, and the goodbye to Horton which many feared would lead to doom.

Isn't Mitch is/was an English teacher? If so it certainly explains his ability with the written word.
