I really only want the highest ceiling - Ayton or the highest floor - Doncic

I would really consider trading if we fell all the way to 4

Because of his defense I don't think he can play the 5 in the NBA. Picking him isn't bad, which I have him at 3 but I don't believe it really moves the needle for us as a franchise.

Meanwhile Ayton or Doncic look like sure fire stars that address major needs at the same time.

first pick? i can't decide.
either Ayton, Doncic or Young
then Bagley

i'm a point guard lover.
magic and nash were my all-time favorites.
bb IQ, leadership and unselfishness add so much more than stats to a team

so i lean towards Doncic or Young

i saw Ayton's last game
he seemed dependent on his teammates to make things happen for him
not uncommon for a big man. but that's my point
perhaps his ceiling is Amare

i saw Young's last game.
2 big 3's in crunch time, then missed 2 and started passing again
perhaps his ceiling is just short of Curry

i don't see why Doncic can't be our point
sure, more agile pg's can go around them
but he should burn them by shooting over them

that's my 2 cents before this debate really heats up in 2 days

(this is my first post here, but i'm not a newbie. i've been a forum admin myself for over 15 years. i don't like punctuation because it slows up my thoughts and writing)

Ayton's ceiling is hard to quantify but it is a good topic. I will put it in another thread

Just so you know. If we end up getting #4, I am probably not going to show up here for a few days. Raw and all.

I'll be disappointed but not overly so. It would be great to draft the best player in this class but that so often isn't the first player selected. I want the first pick, don't get me wrong, I just don't have a lot of energy invested in that dream. I'll save up my misery for draft night when we trade the 4, the 16, the 31 and a future number 1 for a Chriss play-alike. (JK, I hope)

We want to know where to find you. :p

The 4th pick could be as good or better than the 1st pick.

However, yes, will be a lot of complaining if the Suns draft #4.

I think the #3 pick would get me down the most. The way I think the draft will go for the Suns, depending on where they pick, will be...

#1 - Ayton
#2 - Doncic
#3 - Bagley
#4 - Young

In order I'd prefer, it's probably #1, #4, #2, and then #3 a bit lower. I avoided the press conference today because I knew Doncic would be discussed and I don't want to get sold on him before I know where we pick. My preference is Ayton, Young, and then Doncic, and we're virtually guaranteed one of them.

Better than the 2nd or 3rd pick, perhaps.

But better than Ayton. 'No way!

I’ll be honest I’m sure I go:

Ayton
Doncic
Bagley

But as excited as I’ve been for the depth atop this draft through pick 7, I’ll not only be disappointed past those three, but I literally cannot order the remaining four in terms of my preference.

Seems like porter may be the most talented but he’s at a position of least need (lots of talk about him as a stretch 4, but I don’t see it. I think he’s an oversized wing at the end of the day). And the back . . . oh the back.

If Young is who he COULD be I’d love him. But I lack all confidence in a slight unathletic point guard in today’s league.

Bamba could be game changing if he is who he COULD be as well. But if he ends up being who he was at Texas he becomes a missed opportunity in a big draft for us.

And then there is jjj. I actually WANT to like him fourth. And I see a TON of mocks with him in the top 4. But I fear he has the biggest leap to make. But also has the biggest upside at a position of need for us.

Sigh, I guess where I come out is . . .

Ayton I’m ecstatic.

Doncic I’m thrilled but slightly concerned and can’t wait to see what he is as a sun.

Bagley I’m excited but my expectations are muted due to the fact he’ll never be a great defender.

The rest of the guys I’ll just be disappointed we didn’t get one of the top three, but highly interested to see if/how they develope and I’ll keep my fingers crossed. And remain optimistic until they prove me otherwise.

Most of all I’m hopeful Igor’s developmental skills prove valuable and that he hires great assistants to squeeze the most out of whomever we draft.

We are so not getting the #1 pick tomorrow night.

with all the back and forth about Doncic, surprisingly, this is where I'm at. Not thrilled, but it's the way I probably go. If EVERYONE is talking about him as a unicorn, I'm willing to take the risk on a unicorn over Bagley who I have concerns with defensively.

and pretty much the same everywhere else.

I was thinking about this... who are the guys... the BIG guys who have ever had freshmen seasons like JJJ has had that actually ended up becoming superstars? My fear of all fears is he's Tyrus Thomas, Derrick Favors-esque... guys who never really showed sustained big time ability in college but were tantalizing athletic specimens. Help me out here for a comp frosh or even sophomore who became a GREAT player based off so little in college?

I may have to join you.

This alone makes it important for the Suns to get a top 2 pick, but I want the first pick as does everybody.

If we can only make it to the draft, I think things will be okay.

The Stepien has Ayton going 6th right now in their mock.

If only that were true the Suns would be in great position in the draft no matter where they land.

The Stepien doesn't make much sense, TBH. Their individual rankings seem to tell a little bit of a different story. I'm trying to make sense of it and it looks like they just pick tiers for players and then they use the average for them as their ranking. Ayton's actually on par with Carter, Bagley, and Porter but if you look at the individual rankings some have him rated higher than those others while others have him even. Not sure why they have them in the order they do but it doesn't look like Carter and Bagley should be ahead of him. I'm not sure, it's weird. Here's the link. Maybe you can see what I'm saying, maybe you can't, maybe I'm making as much sense as their ratings.

After scratching my head madly, I will take it no matter how they got there.

It gives the Suns more options I like.

I like Sexton but he isn’t falling to 16. I am hoping Shai Gilgeous does (but don’t think he will).
Kokoskov is such a guard developer. It makes me interested in Sexton. Sexton has speed, athletic ability, he is a good defender. If he could add a really consistent shot he would be dynamite.

But so would Brandon Knight.
