comments today (tuesday).

1. This new "consultant" hargrave/hargrove (whatever) - Denny has wanted to hire him since the beginning...but now appears to have the green light..jurecki implied he is defensive coach now somewhere in college - coming in as a offensive consultant...not exactly a ringing endorsement...

2. Johnson is going to be demoted to 3rd or 4th receiver..williams or newhouse or poole will move up to #2. Johnson cannot get seperation.

3. Boldin is going to see a Miami doctor (for his knee)..he is now giving the "month" he will be back...Bill lewis seems to think he will be out all season...current month appears to be november.....

4. Renaldo hill is injured...minor injury in st. louis game..jurecki is calling out Green for not putting him on the injury list the week of the Patriots game. probably will be ready this week.

5. Ray thompson is doubtful again..

that is what I heard..FYI..I missed part of the show..

Great draft last year. I wanted Leftwich but would have been happy with Suggs...I wanted to believe 2 players at need positions would be a good thing but neither one looks like they can contribute. And people wonder why our team lacks talent...we haven't drafted for ***** and the players that do develop...we let go for nothing. Green will change that.

I thought that the funniest part of Jurecki's little report was that he said "his sources" told him that the Cards were going to hire Carl Hargraves as an offensive assistant. Since this tidbit of info was in the AZ Republic this AM is Jurecki implying that he gets his info from the Republic? He must have dug really deep to get that info. This guy is clueless.

Nate Poole might be better anyway. If Johnson's getting no separation, then I'd want Poole in there. But if we need a speed guy (if Poole isn't fast enough), we might have to go with Newhouse...who doesn't have tons of experience.

Poole had a case of butterfingers on one particular pass versus the Patriots...

I hope the kid does well however.

Huh?

Is Johnson the only one not getting separation?

What about Fitz?

One thing I noticed, so far, in reviewing last Sunday's tape, (and I'm only about through part of the 2nd quarter, is that Green used quite a bit of 2 TE sets.

Which means only 2 WR's.

If Johnson is moved "down" to 3 then does that mean he comes off the field on the double TE sets with Fitz and Williams the remaining wideouts?

I would think so, as Williams is about the only other guy I can think of that might be able to legitimately cause defenses any concern "deep".

Poole certainly isn't. He's like Fitz...no speed demon, but more of a "possession" type guy.

I mean if Green is going to single out BJ for lack of separation, why isn't doing likewise with Fitz?

note:

on the pregame intoductions against the patriots...the cardinals announced two starters at Tight end...diamond and jones. No fullback starter ....and only two receivers..I know fitz was one and I think johnson was the other "starter" .

I thought it was interesting.....I suppose it means nothing - I wonder how they determine who the announced starters are (i.e. choosing which package to announce as starters)? In years past it was always 2 receivers, 1 TE and a fullback....

Poole had a terrible drop last week.

No receiver got open because you can't do a five step drop against a blitz.

You can't do a naked bootleg against a blitz.

You can't get downfield against bump and run/blitz if you don't have protection.

You can't catch the ball when you do finally manage to get open, the QB is 3 yards off target because he is throwing off his back foot.

All these changes won't make a bit of difference.

As a follow up to my prior post, one of the other things I noticed and intend to look at more, was a time or two where there were 2TE's and only 1 WR with 2 RB's.

So now you have 1 WR trying to find some daylight, other than the 2 TE's which, so far, from what I've observed, generall run short crossing routes over the middle.

No wonder Josh didn't have many targets sometimes.

I've mentioned this formation before Tango, in regards to the playcalling on the -23 yard drive after the Berry fumble return. On first down, we ran for two yards. On second, we ran Fitz and Johnson off the field and brought in a TE and a FB. The Pats respond immediately by running a run defense package on the field. Our call was a run fake to the right, with Josh bootlegging back to the left. On the left side, Williams was split out and had single coverage. He ran a post route with a hard curl/dig back towards the pylon and he was open. If Josh didn't throw behind him, it was a TD. Of course, Josh had a Pat (McGinest, I think) on top of him immediately after the fake and he was sacked before he could even get outside the tackle.

So, in that case, the formation was not the problem. In fact, it created the matchup we wanted and it would've worked, but the line failed to pick up the blitzer.
