More evidence a top ten pick is a brutal burden

Agreed.

It is nice for the Cardinals not to be picking in the top 10 this year

Completely agree!

I have made at least one or two post here over the last couple of years on that very topic. The way things are currently in the NFL, the teams with the worst records are hurt by having high draft picks which demand contracts disproportionate to the players worth.

That's the case even when the player meets or exceeds expectations, just ask Rod Graves.

I think the simplest thing to fix the 1st round draft pick problem is limit all rookies to 3 year contracts only, with no voidable years allowed.

With only 3 years to spread the bonus money over, the bonuses would be smaller and therefore busts would not cost the team as much money.

Plus, in year 4, under current rules, players are restricted free agents, so they can't just jump to another team. Instead, their team can either work out a new longterm deal or give them a tender offer for the 4th year. Good players will get rewarded sooner and busts won't hurt the team as much.

No thanks. I do not think the solution is to let players leave teams earlier rather than later. That ignores the real problems while only exarcerbating the increased movement of players from team to team. The real problem is rookies making outrageous sums of money, far more than in sports like basketball. A tiered, structured system needs to be implemented, so rookies do make a good amount of money if they are drafted high, but do not break the bank or kill a franchise's hope at success if they bust. Then, if they earn their payday, they'll still get it after they are a proven player.
