The word around the NBA is that McGrady is out of Orlando this summer. The combination of new management, the miserable season and McGrady's refusal to confirm whether he'd stay after next season (when he will be a free agent) has led Magic management to search for a deal. Expect it to be with the Suns, who are under new ownership and looking for a star to fill some seats. And that should work for McGrady, who'll need to assure the team he is sent to he'll sign. He'll do that with the Suns so he can play with Orlando buddy Amare Stoudemire, the big man he never could get with the Magic. It probably would take Shawn Marion, Joe Johnson and a No. 1 pick to get it done. But where were the Suns going with the team they've got?

I do believe that the Suns will inquire about Tracey, but Shawn, Joe and the 1st round pick is a little to much for Mcgrady.

Although I think I would prefer to give up Marion, JJ and #1 than just JJ,#1 and Lampe because of the cap hit.

It's pretty confusing to imagine how a deal for TMac could look like because there are many possibilities. Bottom line is that I think if we keep Amare and add TMac it should be a pretty good deal anyway.

If we traded Marion we could likely still make a move to offer Kobe the max. Or we could sign a couple of role players to surround TMac and Amare.

I bet Gary Payton is leaving the Lakers. He hates the triangle offense and he has had problems with Phil Jackson because of that.

And? Would Gary Payton accept his role as a 3rd/4th option of the Suns?

I dont want JJ included into any deal and from what I have heard and read neither does the Suns Management. I think Marion, the Suns 1st, and Carbakapa would get it done. I think thats the best offer Orlando will get by a long shot. If need be through in a future #1 but dont include JJ...

As much as I harped on JJ for so long, I don't want him to be included in a deal. I love Shawn Marion, but between him and Tracy, I'd pick TMac any day.

We'll have to see what happens because it may take our pick to get rid of White or Eisley--in that case, we won't have it to offer to Orlando.

This is just another really interesting aspect of what this offseason is going to bring for the Phoenix Suns.

Sorry, but I don't see it happening.

If Orlando trades McGrady, there are two ways it can happen: (a) some team can trade for McGrady not knowing whether he'll re-sign with them, and (b) McGrady agrees to re-sign with his destination team, in which case he's the one running the negotiations.

The only team I can see trading for him in scenario (a) is Portland, because they have the expiring contracts and the financial wherewithal to acquire both McGrady's contract and Grant Hill's. After the McDyess debacle, I don't believe the Suns would give up significant assets to pick up the last year of McGrady's contract.

As for scenario (b), why would Phoenix be #1 in McGrady's eyes out of twenty or thirty possible destinations? We know that Amare isn't McGrady's best friend; since McGrady's already on record as wanting to play with Tim Duncan, wouldn't San Antonio make at least as much sense? How about Miami, where McGrady could stay close to home? Or the limelights of Philadelphia? Etc., etc.

Payton said he is doing whatever Malone will do...if he stays in L.A., Payton will probably stay. If he goes to another team, Payton will follow him.

I heard that this weekend, or the previous weekend during one of the Lakers/Rockets games.

i think getting rid of both jj and marion just for mcgrady would be not a good idea. if we could get kobe with mcgrady, then i would be ok with losing jj and marion. if not, then we are left to fill three starting positions instead of two. if we just get kobe, we only need to fill the center position.

I heard that also. If one of those players, but especially both of those players ended up with the Phoenix Suns you just see a thread titled "goodbye" for me. You could just assume that I had killed myself at that point. :)

In here a Payton has actually passed by Karl Malone for the top spot on my least favorite NBA player list. Malone almost jumped to the top again yesterday after he was crying to the officials however. I mean what was he complaining about? They called the foul on Nachbar

I can't stand either of those guys.

I do not want to give up JJ unless I totally have to. I would try to give away any other player besides Amare if I had to. I think JJ can play point guard for us if we want to. We could maybe if up the rights to our European pg if we can do that and offer them Carbakaba or even Lampe if they liked with Marion and possibly our first...

Marion is nearly as good as T-Mac right now

i like marion, but ONLY together with a 1st rounder I would trade him for
t-mac, nothing more, evtentually caparkapa.

Shawn's the perfect complementary player....
....if only we could get t-mac and kobe without giving up shawn...keep dreaming king a...

If Marion was the only good player on the team and got a touch on every offensive possession, I think he would have simular stats to McGrady

Shawn Marion isn't going to fill an arena. Tracy McGrady will--and hence is worth more money. And that's what it's about anyway.

You lost credibility with me there if you REALLY believe that Eisley and not White will be gone. :D

I would say there is easily an 85% chance that if one of them was gone, White would be the one.

As I view it, if the Suns want a championship Kobe is their man. He is the only player I see that can carry the Suns to a championship.

If the Suns can't or do not want to obtain Kobe then the Suns' best bet is to add a key free agent or two to their nucleus.

TMac is a good player but not a franchise player. As some others have said, I keep thinking about the Penny comparison. Also I'm not that sure Tracy is that much better than Shawn.

The Suns need to shore up their defensive scheme (maybe it will come with continuity and maturity) add another intimidating presence inside (hopefully with some scoring ability) and add a shooter.

The Suns should not sell the farm because they are close.

Welcome new guy! Tracy McGrady a top 3 player in the NBA. He is a franchise player. The only young player that is comparable in talent to him is Kobe. I would love to have either on the Suns, and the focus of the summer better be on getting one of the two.

Tracy McGrady not a franchise player?? Why? Because he couldn't lead that pee wee team back east to the playoffs? A guy needs more help than Drew Gooden and Juwan Howard.
