Yeah, I'm sure that Graves signed this deal without a prior medical check.

this has nothing to do with what Ouchie was saying. Medical check or not, the guy had a history of knee problems and we still threw a bunch of cash at him and then when it seemed like those problems cropped up, we had no plan for it with very poor depth at C, even though we knew it was a possibilty (or more like probability).

all that being said . . . shame on graves for signing such damaged goods for such a contract and compounding that problem with not getting enough depth to withstanding the inevitable. can sendlein do the job? maybe. for a team that considers itself a playoff team? less likely. and who backs him up? nothing of consequence. kudos to graves and co. more terrific decisionmaking.

Is this how you handle you're personal life? Every setback is blame someone else? Teams sign players with an injury history all the time if they feel they might come back and contribute, there's no sure bets.

The player's doctors don't have to disclose their prognosis, that falls under privacy considerations. You're asking the team to know the full prognosis after a 15 minute physical and a 30 minute workout.

Of course, lawyers don't have to respect individual freedoms, it's all subject to what can we gain.

Sorry Ouchie, I don't mean any offense, I'm just responding the way I see it.

When we signed Johnson very few people complained because we didn't have anyone at center. You have to pay big $$$ when you sign free agents these days. He did have a history of injuries but that didn't neccesarily mean he would be injured in the future. We took a chance and it worked out pretty good for us last year. Fortunately for us we had an undrafted walk-on make the team last year and now he's our future center. It's easy to criticize looking back but some times things work out and sometimes they don't.

That's why joeshmo gets respect around here. He didn't like the signing in the first place but he doesn't use that to rail on the Cards when it isn't justified.

I wouldn't call Lyle Sendlein poor depth at center.

I wouldn't either - I'd call him our starter, which is what he's been because the injury prone guy we were depending on was injured and never healthy or on the field all off/pre/regular season. Now the guy playing behind Seindlein... THAT'S poor depth at C.

Now maybe you'll say "that's not fair because Johnson was supposed to be our starter" but you know what, how do you not have any kind of insurance depth wise when you are depend on chronically injured guy who was a) injured last season and b) was actually injured all off season. NOT providing more depth at that position is a recipe for disaster. You know the guy's injured, you know the guy has a propensity to reinjure himself and all you do is have one C behind him you can depend on? Sorry man, I'd like my FO to be a little more cautious/forward thinking as far as that goes.

Cheese, you're right, I did make it too personal. My apologies to you and Ouchie.

But still, why is it when something goes wrong, we have to blame somebody? Life is not fair and it's not set in stone. When something goes wrong, you pick yourself up and go kick some ass!

Exactly. That's what the Cards have to do. Now, if it was the Cards whining you might have a point. It's a fan complaining about the team's inability to properly plan. What's wrong with that?
