Suns Notebook 3-22-2004
March 22, 2004: Rookie forward/center Maciej Lampe set multiple career highs Saturday night in the Suns’ 123-111 win over the Bucks. The 19-year-old had 17 points, five rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes off the bench.
“I was hitting my shots Saturday,” Lampe said, “but I was missing a couple too. I’m a big guy who can shoot the ball. I want to try and do my best and help the team win. I’m just trying to play my game, trying to understand it better. It was good for me. I’ve been waiting a long time to match up.”
Lampe’s 17 points also completed a Suns rookie scoring hat trick for the year. He joined teammates Leandro Barbosa and Zarko Cabarkapa to have scored at least 17 points in a game in their first season.
Head Coach Mike D’Antoni adds, “He played well. I’m sure he’ll have his ups and downs, but he gave us a glimpse of what he can be and on how much talent he has. He just has to keep working and getting older. If he keeps his attitude and his direction, it’s a nice little start.”
