Found this interesting, guess who IU hired as a member of their staff ala Sendek hiring the coach at James Harden's HS? Yep, the coach of Eric Gordon will be joining the staff at Indiana.

I see that Sampson learned his lesson.

It's legal, absolutely nothing wrog with it

It's one of those unwritten rules things. Most coaches don't recruit a kid once he verbals somewhere else, IU didn't stop with Gordon after he verballed to Illinois. But when he still was committed there, they went and hired his coach too.

You're right, completely within the rules, but most schools don't choose to do that with a kid who's already verballed somewhere else.

The Harden one bugged me but not even close to the case of Gordon.

I didn't realize he had already verballed. I agree, thats shady and cheap. The Harden situation happens all the time so there's nothing wrong with it. Until the NCAA does something about it, situations like that will happen several times a year

Yeah we had a long debate on that on this board on another thread. I don't like the package deal stuff but as you said, it's legal so you can't complain too much.

The Gordon case was really bad, the kid spent months denying rumors he was wavering on Illinois. They stopped recruiting other kids because he'd verballed. Rumors surfaced he was visiting Indiana and he continued to say nothign to worry about, and then he retracted his verbal and committed to IU.

From what I read IU hired both Gordon's AAU coach, and the guy who coached his dad in college.
