Wark: Where do you see Mike Williams going in the draft, if he decides to go to the NFL?

Chris Mortensen: I don't know. Maybe top 10- or top 20. It's funny, because I've had a handful of personnel guys remark that Williams lacks speed, but is a big target with good hands... and one guy said, "He's Keyshawn Johnson, basically." That's interesting. Keyshawn was the first player taken in a weak draft (this is a better draft), and it was Keyshawn who recruited Williams out of the Tampa area for his alma mater, USC.

Dax Whittle, Las Vegas: Any chance Larry Fitzgerald ends up in Arizona?

Chris Mortensen: That's my bet, right now.

DJ (Rochester, NY): Do u think Denny Green will draft Williams or Fitzgerald or if Fits is gone does he take a QB??? Congrats on Alex

Chris Mortensen: I don't necessarily see Green taking a QB because, remember, he went to the playoffs 8 times with seven different QBs in Minnesota. Fitzgerald, he'll take, because of personal ties (plus talent). Roy Williams still may get rated as the best receiver in this draft on a number of boards.

What a year to be looking for a WR (not that the Cards are). Fitz, MW, RW...and three others may go in the first round! Wow.

Why would the Cards not be looking???

They have Boldin, ??????? and Johnson to run a 3 wr set. Fitz, M Williams or R Williams allwould be great fits

I've been telling you folks that Roy Williams is the man we're going to take for months. Only now, with Mike Williams in, we'll move down and take the Texas Longhorn wideout.

So my question to you is this...whom do we sit for this vaunted 3 receiver set for 60% of the offensive plays?

Is it our FB and we run a K-Gun style offense?

Is it Freddie Jones?

I just scoff at all this "3 receiver" talk. People act like football is a computer simulation. Most teams run a standard set for the majority of the plays...that means we are sitting a first round pick for most of the game...either Fitzgerald or Johnson.

Sure you will see 3 receivers on second and long and third and long...but how about a concept that is COMPLETELY foreign to the Cardinals...don't spend the whole damn game in those situations.

I didn't mean to imply that they looking AT these wide outs, but that if the draft weren't so strong in WR, they wouldn't go out of their way to look FOR one.

I think we will end up with a WR at #3, much to my chagrin. I really like Ben Roethlisberger. But, ending up with MW, LF or RW wouldn't suck.

Seriously...

I have often wondered this... Why couldn't we split out Freddie Jones to make a 3 receiver set? Wouldn't that create a few coverage problems?

Not with Green as coach we won't. He says we'll run 3 wideout sets about 50% of the time. That means it'll be a set on first down as well.

Or use Kasper or Poole as the third wide-out, especially on third and long downs? Two sure-handed, not afraid to go over the middle types. When they double team Boldin, throw to one of these guys for a quick pick-up of 10 yards or so or hit Johnson on a long route if he comes open. If you catch the other team in a zone coverage, one of these guys will be open.
