Is it just me, or does anyone else revel in the fact that Eli has been the beacon of mediocrity on a flop of a team? Poetic justice? His baby antics made me sick and his sulking on stage when he just made millions of dollars made me want to choke him out. I hope he goes on to have the career of Dave Krieg or Bernie Kosar. Better yet, Trent Dilfer....

Dilfer won a Superbowl. Let's not give him that much success.

Jackson wasn't rated anywhere the top 5, so he wasn't in the picture no matter what.

On Eli....

I have personally talked to one of the other key players for the Giants. Off the record, he told me that Eli is very disliked by his teammates. His draft stunt made the other players think that Eli put himself and his ego before the team and game. Since then Eli has only confirmed that - and made him even more unpopular.

I won't mention names, since it was (way) off the record.

that is the rumor, that Eli is extremely unpopular with his teammates, one bay area writer today wrote that there's no truth that Eli's last name rhymes with Pierzynski, a shot at the baseball C of that name that was so hated by his teammates he got traded several times.

My how far the Chargers have come. Remember after the Metcalf deal, we were roasting them forever? I think they have a chance to turn the tables on us this week for stepping on their backs to the playoffs.

I heard this mentioned on a radio sports show today.

When Eli Manning threw his tantrum and told the Chargers not to draft him, we all know San Diego cut a deal with the Giants. I had forgotten how lopsided it was.

Chargers ended up with Rivers, Shawn Merriman and Nate Keading with the draft picks that came from the deal.

BTW, all 3 made the Pro Bowl. Eli is floundering.

No wonder Ernie Accorsi is retiring as GM of the Giants.

I am still pissed off at Manning for being such a prima donna. However, at only age 21 he was probably ordered by his father to act as he did. Hope Archie learned something from all this. Give me the choice to live in NYC or San Diego and its San Diego every time even for less money.

Don't forget the trade of picks to Atlanta that was Vick for LT. The Chargers
were basically built in thse two drafts. WOW!!!! Could we ever get that lucky.

The Hershel Walker trade by Dallas sort of made Dallas. N.O. gave up a bit to much to get Ricky Williams. I bet Ditka is rethinking that deal.

Didn't the Cards have a shot at Eli and "screwed it up" by beating Minnesota? Not sure if my memory is correct, but damn it would be great to have the guys the Chargers have.

With Archie running the show I doubt Manning would have come to play for our franchise.

Yeah. To think that he wouldn't have done the same to AZ is ridiculous. Chances are, he wouldn't have even walked up to the stage to accept his #1 jersey from the commish. If AZ had drafted him, his behavior would certainly have been worse....

I still contend this is incorrect.

Poppa Manning did not like Marty and his style of football, which was one of the major issues.

But in AZ we had just hired Denny Green, and Boldin was a probowl WR, and we were building a new stadium. Much more attractive.

So the Mannings hate winning??

San Diego didn't start winning until after that draft. And Marty is a running game type coach, so Archie wouldn't want his kid to be a caretaker QB...at least that was the talk at the time that I remember.

Indy wasn't very good when Peyton went there, so they aren't scared of losing.

There was much more to it than San Diego not winning (oh, and the Cardinals had won in that timeframe, even advancing in the playoffs).

The GM/President of the Chargers at one point stated he felt it was personal with Poppa Manning, because he was a scout and limited experience and Archie thought he'd suck, or something like that. You can google it with Archie Manning and the GM's name and it will likely come up.

So why the friction almost three years later? Not surprisingly, it's something that has its roots in Smith taking over for Butler. At the time that the 2004 NFL draft was rounding into form, Eli Manning and his father, Archie, indicated the Ole Miss star had no interest in playing for San Diego. Not only did the family not want any part of San Diego as a franchise, Smith walked away feeling like Archie Manning and his entire clan of NFL blue-bloods had taken a shot at his reputation. And if there was one thing Smith learned from his father – a hard-living travel engineer for a trucking company – it was to never let someone trample on your name or hard work.

"Archie Manning never said it publicly, but my information was that it was because I was a scout and that I was incapable of even handling anything as a general manager and so forth," Smith said. "And that was amongst other things. [Archie's opinion was] the players were terrible and it was the worst team in the National Football League and it would probably remain so."

No wonder I remember this, it was only from a few weeks ago.

Good call Archie. AJ Smith has put together the deepest and most talented team in the league with a very young core group of guys. That team is going to be scary good for the next few years as long as Marty forgets he is Marty in the playoffs.
