Will Lightman is a hip child-free Londoner who one day realizes that his friends are all involved with the responsibilities of married life and that leaves him alone in the cold. Passing himself as a single father, he starts to meet a string of single mums, confident in his ability to leave them behind when they start to ask for a commitment. But Will's hope of a continued bachelorhood is interrupted when he meets Marcus, an odd 12-year-old boy with problems at school. Gradually, Will and Marcus become friends, and as Will teaches Marcus how to be a cool kid, Marcus helps Will to finally grow up. Stars Hugh Grant, Toni Collette, and Rachel Weisz.

An old girlfriend wanted to watch this one and I figured it would be a chick flick, but I enjoyed it. Directed by the American Pie guys.

I enjoyed this movie. Like most of the guys I know who saw it, it was one of those "Oh, well the girlfriend wants to see it and it's either this or some Sandra Bullock movie". Hugh Grant did a very good job as an arrogant but likeable bastard and Toni Collette was very good as well.

I agree. Hugh Grant is kind of an interesting guy--I've enjoyed most of what he's done, including his romantic comedies.

Ditto,

The guy is a good actor. I enjoy pretty much all of his movies.

Been watching this movie again recently--I'm using it as one of the foundations for a script I'm writing.

On a second or third viewing, it's actually quite brilliant in the way it's executed. The commentary by the directors (even though one of their voices can put you to sleep) is very good.

In this movie? Or just in general... ;) I thought she looked great in Sixth Sense.

It helps that she's such a great actress.

I think in general, even in the roles where she looks chubby like "In her Shoes".... She's not that attractive either.... oh well

I watched this one about a year ago. I really enjoyed it. I thought they did an excellent job of mixing some heavy material with the comedy.
