Go Cardinals! Yay!!!
This is a documentary that should be required viewing for anybody who has thought about making a film themselves. People who love independent film should see this - a great independent film about someone trying to make an independent film.
The movie follows Mark Borchardt, a middle-aged horror movie nut who is attempting to finish a short film in order to raise financing for a feature length feature. The short film is titled Coven, but he pronounces it Coh-vin because coven sounds too much like oven. The documentary follows him over the course of several years as he struggles to finish the film, utilizing local actors, friends, and family members.
As a frustrated production assistant struggling in Hollywood, this movie spoke to me. I'm on my current path in life largely as a result of watching this film. It's both heartbreaking and hilarious. You want Mark to fulfill his dreams but you can't help but be frustrated with him at circumstances and mishaps throughout the filmmaking process.
Highly, HIGHLY recommend this one.
