Thirty-seven thousand years ago, a deadly secret was buried in a cave in Texas. Now the secret has been unleashed. And its discovery may mean the end of all humanity. When a terrorist bomb destroys a building in Dallas, Texas, FBI Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy surpassing anything they've ever encountered. With the dubious assistance of a paranoid doctor (Martin Landau), Mulder and Scully risk their careers and their lives to hunt down a deadly virus which may be extraterrestrial in origin - and could destroy all life on earth. Their pursuit of the truth pits them against the mysterious Syndicate, powerful men who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets safe, leading the agents from a cave in Texas, to the halls of the FBI, and finally to a secret installation in Antarctica which holds the greatest secret of all. This was an obvious first choice for me. Although I don't consider it to be the best movie ever made, I do give it props for being one of the few TV franchises to jump onto the big screen, even when the series is still airing.

I've asked non X-Philes if they understood/enjoyed the movie, to see it from their point of view. Most said it was an OK movie and that they were able to follow along for most parts. I thought the plot was interesting and special effects (particularly the bombing part) was pretty cool.

Martin Landau was great - as were David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Wondering if anyone one else saw this movie that wasn't already a fan of the show

Kate's first movie is the X-files? Shock! Awe!! :D

Not a huge X-files fan, but I did see this movie, and did enjoy it.

Of course, like anything X-file connected, I do remember scratching my head a few times, thinking, WTF??

Overall, a good flick.

BLASPHEME!

I love this movie as well, saw it 8 hours before my wedding on opening day actually...

I just wish they'd get on the second movie already...

It's actually not that great of a movie, just an extended episode of the series. That's too bad, because I was really looking forward to it when it first came out. But it wasn't absolutely horrible, and it does continue the storyline from the tv show--but like the show, nothing is ever established, like the show, its ending is very open-ended.

Those of you that liked the alien conspiracy episodes (which became too complicated and unneccesary, IMO) probably would like the movie much better than those of us that prefer the Monster-of-the-Week format.

I really enjoyed the film, even though it was more like an extended episode, as it did expose the entire alien plot, and the intentions of the group that was "fighting the future".

But after having viewed the movie, the cat was out of the bag me for so to speak. The film laid all the cards on the table, there was no more mystery in the series for me. So as a consequence, my interest for the TV show dropped.

Chap hit the nail on the head- it was an extended episode, not really a movie.

Now, I am one of the X- philes who enjoyed the mythology or conspiracy, if you will, more than the MOTW format. I enjoyed the movie, but there are many episodes I enjoyed heck of a lot more. I guess I was hoping for more of a thriller like the end of season 2/ beginning of season 3.

So, it was OK, but what we really need now is the movie that will bring out some kind of conclusion, as the ending of the series wasn't impressive at all.

Sir

Well in my humble opinion, most X-Files eps were like mini-movies :)

Hm, I kinda see what you mean, but it still doesn't change the fact that the "movie" was just like an extended episode.

I mean Anasazi and the following two episodes would have made a better movie than Fight the Future.
