The original 1947 version of this Valentine Davies story follows the misadventures of Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) as he gets a job playing Santa Claus at Macy's department store in New York City. Natalie Wood is the little girl who tells him she doesn't believe in Santa, and Maureen O'Hara and John Payne are the couple who help Kris through a trial in which he must prove he's the jolly fellow from the North Pole. A sweet movie and perennial Christmas favorite, this is one of those movies that gets under your skin and must be revisited every so often. --Tom Keogh
Personal Note:
Christmas is not the same w/out you and your loved ones all gathering in front of your television set and viewing this film... I bet for most it's become a holiday tradition... or..if it hasnt.. then it definitely must become one since it captures the spirit and sentiment of Christmas quite well...
Natalie Wood, Maureen O'Hara, and John Payne did a superb job in portraying their characters extremely well and just added a further essence/allure to this film of their own.....
It's certainly a classic... One in which is timeless and must be seen over and over again...It never loses its appear to me.... The remake however to me was a slight injustice, however, one can seldom rival/equal such a wonderful piece of work which the original was.....
True.. you may know how the plot of Miracle on 34th Street unfolds and also the climax of it, however, it's a vital piece of nostalgia and never dies since you share it from generation to each subsequent generation..and you rediscover it again.... Also, it's fascinating to watch this film as you get older since you gain a different view/perspective on it... So, Miracle on 34th Street is truly legendary and is a film that one can never grow tired of.....
