Sorry but I had to put ths movie in here. Not just because of the title either. This is legitimately one of my favorite westerns to ever hit the big screen. I know that its very old but it is timeless as far as Im concerned!

A very heartwarming story and just a good movie from beginning to end! I still tear up at the end hearing the kid yell "Shane please dont go, come back Shane!"

Definately an all time classic!

Consciously crafted by director George Stevens as a piece of American mythmaking, Shane is on nearly everyone's shortlist of great movie Westerns. A buckskin knight, Shane (Alan Ladd) rides into the middle of a range war between farmers and cattlemen, quickly siding with the "sod-busters." While helping a kindly farmer (Van Heflin), Shane falls platonically in love with the man's wife (Jean Arthur, in the last screen performance of a marvelous career). Though the showdowns are exciting, and the story simple but involving, what most people will remember about this movie is the friendship between the stoical Shane and the young son of the farmers. The kid is played by Brandon De Wilde, who gives one of the most amazing child performances in the movies; his parting scene with Shane is guaranteed to draw tears from even the most stonyhearted moviegoer. And speaking of stony hearts, Jack Palance made a sensational impression as the evil gunslinger sent to clean house--he has fewer lines of dialogue than he has lines in his magnificently craggy face, but he makes them count. The photography, highlighting the landscape near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, won an Oscar.

Not only is it a great film but a terrific story as well. The ultimate issue being whether or not one can ever escape from one's self. I think the best scene in the film is the very ending when Shane rides away and he rides through the graveyard foretelling his own ending.

Also memorable is when he sees "Jack Wilson" lying dead on the floor in the saloon and wondering how long it'll be before he shares the same fate. An interesting note is that Jack Palance is credited in the film as "Frank "Jack" Palance. the only time such billing ever occured before he dropped the name "Frank".

Recently watched it. Great, great movie, I couldn't agree more. I'll have to watch it at least once more to properly insert it into my top westerns list, but it's definitely up there near the top.

The movie's line "Shane. Shane. Come back!" was voted as the #47 movie quote by the American Film Institute (out of 100).

Shane

I just finished watching the movie "Shane" and it was one of the best westerns I have seen. I have heard some really good reviews of this movie and watched it on TCM. Alan Ladd was perfect for the part of Shane. I'm surprised he did not win an academy award for this movie. Finally, nice surprise to see a somewhat young Jack Palance.
