Lauren Shuler Donner Auctions Superhero Movie Items
Source: Lauren Shuler Donner
November 13, 2004

Superhero Hype! has received the following special note from "X-Men" series and Constantine producer Lauren Shuler Donner about an auction next week to benefit Hollygrove. There's X-Men and Spider-Man items and much more, so be sure to check it out:

It's great to make movies but it's also great to give back. I have arranged an auction with Ebay, AOL and IN Style starting Nov. 15 for one week to benefit Hollygrove, a child-centered organization that serves abused and neglected children. Hollygrove houses abandoned children and also provides children at risk with psychological, educational and emotional support. It is an incredible organization that is in dire needs of funding. Therefore, I and many filmmakers have donated such items for sale such as :

- The actual Wolverine CLAWS and case that Hugh Jackman wore in "X2" .

- Original concept drawings for "Nightcrawler" from "X2"

- The 32 piece crystal chess set from "X2" - yes, the actual prop.

- The "Daily Bugle" newspaper from "Spider-Man" and Laura Ziskin.

- A helmet from Tim Burton from "Planet of the Apes".

- The bridal dress worn by Alysson Hannigan in "American Wedding".

- The overcoat worn by Tom Hanks in "Road to Perdition" from Jeffery Katzenberg.

- The 2 piece drum majors outfit from "Drum Line".

- Ally Sheedy's ankle length black velvet skirt from "St. Elmo's Fire" .

- A golden telescope used by Jim Carrey's character Count Olaf in "Lemony Snickett: A Series of Unfortunate Events".

- "ELF" (sized) costume from Toby Emmerich from the movie "ELF"

- A life preserver from "Titanic"

- A framed costume drawing from "Pirates of the Caribbean" donated by Jerry Bruckheimer.

And many many more items. To find out all the incredible items available go to: Hollygrove.org/Auction

'Star Wars' light sabers on auction block in L.A.
Tuesday July 26, 2005

Light sabers used by Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" movies are expected to fetch around $60,000 each at a Beverly Hills movie memorabilia auction on Friday.

The two light sabers from the original "Star Wars" and its 1980 sequel "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" are among more than 75 "artifacts in an auction that also includes Harrison Ford's signature leather jacket from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," estimated to fetch some $50,000.

The "Star Wars" treasures come from the collection of producer Gary Kurtz, who worked closely with director George Lucas from 1973-81, and many of them are expected to be snapped up by fans and collectors for well over their estimates.

"We know already that there are going to be bids over the estimated amount," said Lorna Hart, a spokeswoman for auctioneers Profiles in History.

Hart said it was the first known occasion on which items from Kurtz's extensive personal movie archive had come up for public auction. Kurtz is selling off some pieces in order to ensure that the bulk of his collection can be properly preserved.

Other movie memorabilia on the block on Thursday include Tom Hanks' costume from "Saving Private Ryan," John Travolta's leather chaps from "Urban Cowboy" and the suit worn by The Riddler in the first episode of the 1960s TV series version of "Batman."

Collectors can bid in person in Beverly Hills, by phone, fax or live on the Internet through www.ebayliveauctions.com.

Luke Skywalker's lightsaber reaps $200,000 in prop auction
Sat Jul 30, 2005

The lightsaber used by intergalactic hero Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars" sold for $200,000 at an auction of Hollywood props that fetched far more than expected, officials said.

The deadly laser sword brandished by actor Mark Hamill in the original 1977 film was the star of a lot of 550 pieces of movie memorabilia that went on the block Friday and fetched a total of more than two million dollars.

The fictional weapon sold for well over its estimate of between $60,000 and $80,000 at a live and online sale in Beverly Hills, said Lorna Hart of auctioneers profilesinhistory.com.

Skywalker's lightsaber, which gave rise to a generation of replicas and knock-offs, is in reality a short chrome tube with a rubber hilt.

Also performing far better than expected was the lightsaber used by Skywalker's dark nemesis Darth Vader in 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back," which fetched $118,000 dollars instead of the estimated $40,000-60,000.

Some 85 items used in producer George Lucas's cult "Star Wars" series went on the block after one of the film's original producers Gary Kurtz put them up for sale to help maintain and restore his historic collection.

Skywalker's orange X-Wing flight suit sold for $70,000, while a walking cane used by the Jedi sage Yoda in "The Empire Strikes Back" fetched $50,000, instead of the expected $9,000.

A face mask used by the actor playing the hirsute Chewbacca in the movies went for $50,000, while a Stormtrooper blaster fetched $56,500.

Among the non-"Star Wars" items sold was a leather jacket worn by rough and tumble movie hero "Indiana Jones," played by heartthrob actor Harrison Ford in Lucas's other hit movie series. It was snapped up for $94,400.

The jacket, worn by Harrison in 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," had been estimated to go for only $40,000 to $50,000.

A leather "hero jacket" worn by former action movie icon and current California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in "The Terminator" was bought for $41,300, while Oscar-winner Tom Hanks' complete costume from war epic "Saving Private Ryan" went for $29,500.

A teddy bear belonging to the character Radar on the hit 1970s television shoe "M.A.S.H" also went under the hammer for $11,800, while a costume sketch of Marilyn Monroe from 1953's "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" went for $7,670.

Bidders from around the world took part in the six-hour live auction of Hollywood history Friday via phone and live Internet bidding, profilesinhistory.com said.
