Very hard for me to imagine Chevy Chase in the American Beauty role and John Travolta as Forrest Gump.

Funny stuff. I'd seen a few of those before... AND, as usual, I couldn't agree more on your 2 examples.

The other really funny one was Nick Cage refusing to do the voice of Shrek because, "...he didn't want to voice an ugly character." Here's a news flash Mr. Cage..... you ARE and ugly character..... :D

it's very hard for me to even believe that Chase was offered that role...EVER. Everything else, I can kind of see, but Chase had fallen deep into the shadows for a long time before Beauty went into production. Unless Beauty was one of those scripts that bounced around for a long time...but seriously...it was made in 1998 and Chevy had fallen completely off the face of the earth for a good decade before that.

The Travolta as Gump thing is interesting, and a bit unbelievable. Travolta was pretty much a has-been until Pulp Fiction, which started principal photography in September 93. Forrest Gump started production in August 93, well before the theatrical release of Pulp Fiction put Travolta back on the map. Travolta has said he has regretted it ever since, but honestly, I'm not so sure he didn't make the right call in the long run.

Eric Stoltz didn't turn down the role of Marty McFly. Scenes were filmed, it just didn't seem to click with him so he was replaced.

They were added to the Back to the Future blu ray's. Hilarious.

I am pretty sure he was back on the map for general audiences after the Look Who's Talking films. I remember an interview with Travolta saying after those films the offers started rolling in. I believe at the time it was that studios biggest grossing film in history or something like that.

He may not have been on the map for hardcore fans but general audiences was a different story. I completely agree though that Pulp fiction gave his career some legitimacy again. That role put him back on the A-list for another spell.

Which is exactly what the site says. However, the title of the article is a bit misleading.
