P.S - Best composers in the biz:

John Williams
Danny Elfman
Randy Newmen
Hans Zimmer

The first 3 on your list haven't done anything notable in quite some time. Zimmer, although a total jerk to work with, is the only one with an impressive recent resume.

Ones that sucked:

Twilight films (take your pick)
The Last of the Mohicans
LadyHawk
Batman and Robin
Scarface
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Eyes Wide Shut

You are quite possibly the only person I know who doesn't like the Last of the Mohicans score. I love that score.

In a van...down by the river.
Eyes Wide Shut's score is very good IMO. Sparse, but hauntingly effective and positively memorable.
That film falls into the category of either love it or hate it though.....

I had previously thought Nicole Kidman's acting was seriously overrated until i soaked in her performance in this one.

The question is.....

what else were you soaking in during that movie.

Was thinking about Silverado today. I can't remember a thing about the movie, but 25 years later I can still remember several motifs from the soundtrack. In fact, I wish I could get them out of my head because they're dangerous ear worms.

John Williams hasn't but he has 3 projects coming out and they will probably be typical John Williams brilliance. He also has been at work already at work scoring the theme song to the live action Star Wars TV series in pre-production.

Danny Elfman had a huge run a few years back but most recently did Alice in Wonderland which I thought had a good sound track. He also has been hired to do the Dark Shadows remake.

Randy Newman went straight from scoring the Princess and the Frog to Toy Story 3 with a few new projects coming out.

I love the main theme track. My biggest problem with that score is almost every other piece of music on that soundtrack sounds EXACTLY the same. It's like they took one element of the music and regurgitated it through the rest of the track.

Which is really funny because two different composers did the music for that movie.

I do disagree though that it all sounds the same. But I can kinda see what you mean.

Bad Fit: Ravenous (Michael Nyman)
* I thought the idea was ingenious, I just didn't think it worked.
I haven't seen this movie so I can't comment on that, but generally I really like Nyman's work. I think his scores for Gattica and The Piano were really good and work well for those movies. I still listen to those sometimes.

This is A LOT different than anything he's ever done. Trust me on that. :)

The movie itself is a little creepy, but to each his own.
