I really hate it when I go to the movies and somebody comes walking in during the previews and asks you to move down a few seats so they can sit next to their fat ass wife.

I purposely come early so I know I will find a good seat. I spend the 30 or so minutes getting the seat comfortable and warm and somebody asks me to move. My wife gets so embarassed because I now refuse to move. I admit that it's confrontational but it really upsets me to have to re-adjust my seat or have to sit next to a sweaty fat guy who eats popcorn too loud. I will move if they have kids, but when some lame couple comes up to me and yells in my ear because the movie has already started it just really upsets me. Get a life!

Also they should use the same technology that casinos use that disrupt cellphone frequencies so people can't use them in the theater. There was a time 10 years ago where people weren't so friggen dependent on cell phones, they can shut them down for 2 hours and let the rest of us enjoy a movie

I wish they would have movie nights, like the late late show where no-one under 18 is allowed in the theater.... even with an adult. It also upsets me when people bring little kids into violent rated-R movies at the mid-night showing.

When I went to see Wedding Crashers, some young mom brought her 7-9 year old son. THough it wasnt like blood and guts, there were definitely some sexual things that were totally inappropriate for a child that age to be exposed to.

If its a close to capacity theatre on an opening night...I hate the people who all make sure there is one seat between them and the next guy so there are 20 empty single seats and then when you ask ryan...eerrrr, the person to move, they act as if they own the damn place.

I also hate when you go to a comedy and the people behind you laugh so freaking loud and keep saying "Yes..Yes!..That was AWESOME!"

This is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves!!! I want to just slap these parents upside the head and tell them to either find a sitter or DON'T GO TO THE MOVIES! Why are these people so selfish that they put their own desires above their children's needs?

The worst is homophobic guys that leave a seat between each other because they're terrified that their arms might touch and they'd instantly turn gay.

Dude... just come to the movie 10 minutes early and don't ruin the movie watching experience of everyone else. It's called etiquette and common courtesy

You mean you dont turn gay? I think you are wrong. I am going to send it to Mythbusters for them to test out.

Anyways.

My Pet Peeves.

1. The kid thing like others have mentioned.
2. Loud eaters, that means smackers and people who bring in loud food, like a bag of chips or a box of candy that they feel the need to shake like they are an instrument trying to get the candy out, or poeple who feel the need to get the last drop of soda out of their cup.
3. People who sit in the handicap reserved seats when there are plenty of other seats. I see those as off limits just like handicap parking.
4. Gigglers - People who feel the need to laugh at everything during a drama or action movie. It isnt supposed to be funny.

Arg, I am already getting pissed off, so I will stop.

I don't mind if someone asks me to move BEFORE the movie starts, it's those jackasses who make me miss plot points :D

I have the greatest story about movie theatre manners...

We go all the time, probably once a week. We were in Vail, Colorado a few weeks back on vacation, and decided to go see Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Well, the theatre is an older one...with a screen 1/4 the size of what you're used to at a big multi-plex...and no stadium seating.

So we get some seats toward the back, I'm the 4th seat in.

The movie is starting in 5 minutes, the place has MAYBE 25 people in it when it can hold at least 150.

This lady strolls down to the row in front of me, and walks to the fourth seat, right in front of me, and plops down. Here big head right in my way.

All these seats to choose from, and she sits in front of me.

The next thing I realized, I said out loud "I can't believe you're really going to sit there..."

And she heard me, turned around and said "Is this a problem?" and I'm like "Well yeah, a little...there are plenty of other seats."

My wife and the 2 people I was with were totally shocked and probably trying to hide their faces, lol.

The lady ends up moving over, but as she did, I felt like an ass, so I said I was sorry, and that I was rude. She never spoke to me again. Then her hubby came to sit down, I never though she could be with someone, so I was like CRAP, I'm getting my ass kicked here.

But they just stayed where there were the whole movie.

The hilarious thing is that a ton of people came in over the next 5 minutes, and probably everyone in the theater ended up with someone in front of them...except me :)

The cell phones are just such an obvious annoyance, why cant people remember to turn them off? Also, a while ago these annoying little kids (like junior high age) decided it would be fun to throw food at the random person sitting in front of them, which just so happened to be me. What is wrong with some people?

These are all of the reasons my wife and I purchased a huge television, killer surround sound and wait the 3 weeks before a DVD is released... Sometimes on a major release you might even have to wait 8 weeks... And you can usually own it with special cuts and features for about 1/3 the price that the tickets for the family would have cost....

 Yeppers! We went ahead and got a 53" wide screen for much of the same reason! We figure, we can order a movie on PPV for what, $4? Now, we only go see movies in the theater when it's a must see at the theater (LOTR, Star Wars, Spiderman, etc) or when we feel like going on a date and can get a sitter. On a standard weekend, we'll just watch a DVD we either own or borrow from a friend who is an avid collector (I swear he has more titles than Blockbuster! And he's free, we've got keys to his house even! LOL!), or we order a PPV movie.

1. Eating Loud. Heck I can't even stand it when it's not in a theater.

2. Talking. Even during the previews it drives me batty.

3. People in general. Damn, I wish I was really rich so I could rent the theater out for just me.

I still love going to the movie theaters, we just go to the first showing of the movie we want to see on Saturdays.

Saw The Island yesterday around 9:30am, it was perfect! parking lot empty, only about 20 people in the show...

UGHHHHHHHHHHH I am so glad I was able to find this thread.

Last friday I was at the movies, and we'd gotten there a few minutes early to get a good spot. Well, lo and behold, 5 minutes into the preview, and these to girls asked us to move over. Thankfully the seat next to me was actually occupied, but the person was out getting popcorn, so I couldn't have moved over even if I wanted to.

I would have told them no, and that there are plenty of other seats. I was in a MOOD. And I totally thought about this thread afterwards.

ASFN has taken over my life, me thinks.

My wife said that when she and a friend went to Hostel, a couple had their about 7 year old there. She was appalled, and was looking for them after the movie to say something.

Oh, and she thought the movie sucked, too.

this reminds me of one time when my mom took myself and two of my brothers to see "toys" the first morning it opened. we were the first ones there in a humongous theater. this group of kids comes in and proceed to file into not just the row in front of us, but the very seats. so my mom just says, very matter of factly, "sit there and you die." they got these really panicked looks on their faces and quickly moved to the very back row. it was hilarious.
