Garbine Muguruza became the first player to reach the fourth round at the French Open, and Simona Halep followed closely behind. The fourth-seeded Muguzura beat Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium 6-3, 6-0 Friday, while the sixth-seeded Halep had a tougher time against Naomi Osaka in what was the Japanese teen's first match against a top-10 player. Halep won 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
