Looking at getting a new printer as they are charging nearly as much for my new ink cartridge as a new printers.

Homing in on HP Officejet 6310 but I have a quyestion regarding the fax capability.

We are using Winfax [on XP] right now and that seems to have essentially disappeared. I was wondering if these printers have the capability to store the fax and get it on your desktop [electionicly] rather than print it out ?

Windows XP has built in Fax capability. No additional program needed. All you need is a modem to answer the phone.

Install the fax by going to add remove programs - add windows components - add the fax service.

Vista is another issue. Fax not included in Vista. :(

Yep am aware of both those options and still have Winfax running on XP [gives better options that the native utility].

I'm wondering if these mfp devices can also fax to/from your desktop. I would think from is easy, its to the desktop I'm wondering about.

Right now I'm debating moving fax to Ring Central but as I have to get this new printer, I was wondering if it could also do the fax to desktop

Outside of an enterprise type copier (KM BizHub) I don't know of any that do this

I guess I am confused as to why you want to add a device that will do what you already have the capability for.
Of course then I am weird. I would rather have a discrete laser printer, a scanner, and a modem than deal with an MFP and the necessary controller software on my PC.

Because the ink replacements for my current printer have reached $45 a pop. It is a 10 year old HP 722c, plain old inkjet.

I can get one of these print, copy, scanner, faxes machines for $75 and it comes with a 2 cartridge [black/color] system. Back ink is $15 a pop and both cost be the same as the current all in 1 solution.

So for less than the cost of two replacement ink cartridges I get a new printer. As the black is much cheaper, I break even on my first replacement.

For that I get better printing and scanning [inc a document feeder] and a network connection.

Lasers aren't practical fo the volume we do, way to much startup time and we print very little
