College stats never paint a 100% clear picture when the talent levels are so widely varied and the conferences often have widely different playstyles. Oklahoma is one of the top programs in the game and probably the top program in the conference over the past decade. It's typical is loaded with top recruits, plays in a conference that is highly offense oriented and deficient in defense, so it naturally inflates QB stats among other things.
Rosen played at UCLA which is a mid-tier football school. They never really compete for championships and are usually in the middle of the PAC standings. The PAC is not the SEC when it comes to defense, but they are more highly regarded defensively than the Big 12.
One thing that immediately stands out to me with these stats is sample size. Murray had just 519 pass attempts in college and just 1 season of any actual meaningful playing time. His team was considered top 10 this year before he even set foot on the field. They were that damn good. All those OL he threw behind that were "the same size as NFL OL." Yeah, because he had a bunch of NFL caliber players around him in a league where most other guys don't have a bunch of NFL caliber players around them. Rosen certainly didn't have nearly as many around him.
I'm not saying you punish a guy for being on a good team. I'm just saying you don't reward him for it either. Take college stats with a huge grain of salt.
