your third free agency period has addressed the two key positions that needed to and could be upgraded while we figure out what we have in kyler murray (for what feels like the umpteenth time) - these two signings alone make our #1 draft pick not suck so much - seriously tho - i will be no longer clamoring to move up - i might even quit talking about will anderson - im hopeful about the draft now - just don't trade back lol

I feel Monti WILL trade back now.
Very likely IMO.

1. Big pool of players in the mid 1st - there will be several players rated equally at positions of need. Monti has shown no problem with moving down in that scenario.

2. The way the draft board is shaking up right now, some highly rated player could very likely slip to #16 and Monti will have several teams on the phone.

3. Several rumors of multiple teams drafting behind us being very high on Campbell, the 2 TEs and the 2 CBs.

I am not in favor of trading down. If your guy is there, don’t get cute.

But I can easily see a scenario where it makes sense. Bucs, Broncos and Steelers are among the teams rumored to have favorite players. Pick up a 3 and 5 to trade back to 20. Use the picks to move back up from 47 to 30-35. Boom! Monti now has plenty of options in a large pool of players in positions of need

I agree that Monti stepped up with this latest signing. I disagree that we should trade back. THAT would be peak Monti--the chance to take the top guy, but nah, let's trade back and let other teams snag the top guys. Tired of that story, but liking this latest signing.
I agree with not wanting to trade back

But I can see him do it

If there is a difference maker there you have to get him

No playing games

Not getting much attention but this could actually allow the Cards to trade up. That’s not typically Ossenfort’s style but now that option is there. Posters are accurate that this would facilitate going down as well. Ossenfort’s solid FA performance has opened the board to a wide array of potential moves.

Good signing, but more work to be done. Maybe they still go DT, edge; and they'd be wise to do so. Tomlinson can help mentor and bring in Calais Campbell. That would be so important in the history of the Cards. They could actually compete for the playoffs.

id still like to trade up - you know me lol but you're right - monti can make trades a lot easier now (up or down ) with a lot less criticism - no telling who he and sears are eyeing with sweat and tomlinson signed but i wouldn't be mad at more o-line

I'd trade up all day by trading down in round 1. Get 2 firsts or a high 2nd, 1st and a second.

Monti filled DT and DE with two players we don’t have to wait until the rookie rust disappears.

We can now focus on new talent to shore up the positional depth.

OL and LB could use an infusion of young talent.

More than anything, I think we've learned to stop panicking before the first day of Free Agency even hits, haha.

I'm generally not a huge fan of trading back, but I won't be mad if we do.
Nobody can blame us for panicking. We’ve watch this for 20 ( or more) years. There was reason to doubt.
Remember 2008 was 17 years ago. And most would say that year was like catching lightning in a bottle.
2015 was 10 years ago. It’s been a long time for this team to act like a professional organization.

And to be clear there is still more we can do in free agency. Will Hernandez or wouldn’t Becton be nice?

We are close to being in a position to not have to count on major contributions from the 2025 draft class.

I love when fans talk about wanting to trade back without giving reasons as to why teams would want to trade up, lol.

Hard to really figure who would want to trade up. But GM’s always talk. Monti might be totally happy sitting at 16.
However, if he gets a phone call to move down 5 spots, pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick AND believe their targeted guy will still be there then it’s a gamble. Or they could have two or three players they will be happy with.

Oh we never learn.

Also we still have money left and players need to prove themselves.

No kudos from me yet.

Sorry, I can blame people for panicking before day 1 of free agency has even ended. You want to complain about it when week 1 is over? Sure, I suppose.

I haven't been very active over the past year or two, but anyone who remembers me knows I'm not the type to make any excuses for the organization. I've been miserable with them since drafting Kyler and pairing him with a failed college head coach.

I'm not exactly happy with our lack of performance over the past decade/since 2008/etc. But panicking as early as some did was silly.

I don't claim to have specific reasons every team behind us might want to move up, but it's certainly more of an agile position to move around than it has been in years past, where moving back meant giving up on a blue chip player.

Hmm. It was just a year ago when we basically did nothing. It’s well documented here how pissed of people were about the 2024 free agency period.
The year before we let Allen and Murphy leave.
So there was a precedent set. There was reason to doubt. You’re a good guy. I remember you and if I’m correct you are definitely not a darksider. I was in with you for those years waving the kool-aider flag. But I reached a point where it’s show me time. Yes this has turned out better than it looked but I am not going to apologize for my doubt.

Absolutely. There is more we can do but most are shocked by what has transpired and now are willing to kick back, crack open a beer and say “We’re Good”.
