to be clear -- this isnt just me thinking AJ Green is a nice player

this is me believing that the Cardinals use the media to prep their fans for what they will do.

In the last two days -- AJ Green is suddenly being mentioned as the choice if Miller and Peterson are not there.

It came first with Dave Pasch. This morning Doug and Wolf very matter of factly talked about Green being a choice.

Kent Somers mentioned him as a choice in the chat today, and now in his blog just put Green in the list of three playmakers "he is guessing" sit atop the Cardinals board. Trust me -- he isnt guessing.

It would fit the bill of Whiz' comments a couple days ago where he said

"you have grades on players and need, and you do your best to merge the two, but sometimes there is a guy who is soo much higher on the board you take him even though he doesn't fit a great need"

To me that SCREAMS PP7 or AJ Green...

At this point I wouldn't be that surprised with either...

that isnt their style historically

You are right. Their style historically is to draft Wide Receivers. As I've said before, the Bidwills love Receivers, so I won't be surprised at all if AJ Green is the pick.

It'd be like the Cards. Half the fans will throw up if we pass on a QB. The other half will throw up if we draft one of them. So we'll draft a WR, shrug our shoulders, and walk away shaking our heads and mumbling that we enjoyed the Steve Breaston Era.

And then the season will open and we'll have two third round picks and a #5 overall pick sitting on the bench for that Stephen Williams and Max Komar can start Week 1, catching passes from a rejuvenated Derek Anderson.

IMO, AJ Green is a safe and talented pick and I would draft him if there were not any other good options. I'm just thinking, the Cardinals would prefer going defense in the first round, and if that option is not there, they will look hard at trading down a short distance to get more picks plus a player they like.

Why is there a picture of a man carrying a purse on the right side of this page?

As I said a week ago...

1) Miller
2) PP7
3) Green

...thats the Cards order of preferance & if one of those guys are on the board & we pass or trade down our staff is pretty stupid IMO.

If Peterson and the Qb's are gone I would have no trouble taking Green. He is the top Playmaker at Wr in this draft. Say no to Miller(to small) trade down for a truckload or take Green.

I like Buckybird's order of preference for the Cards, with a small change:

1) PP7
2) Miller
3) Green

No problems drafting Green at all. I heard if the Miller and Green are gone, then the Cards will consider trading down but, then again, may stay because PP is too good. But I think their board is definitely:
Miller
Green
PP
trade down.

And a Green / Fitzgerald tandem may make luring a decent QB all the easier in free agency.

Is Green a deep threat?

Is Green really better than Jones? And if it so close wouldn't the Cards consider Jones if Green and others were off the board?

Not like there are any good QBs available though..

McNabb
Palmer
Young
Alex Smith

Those seem a lot more appealing than Bulger at least if they could be signed.

Drafts in the Whisenhunt-era have followed a bizarre (and obviously unintentional) pattern that could point to Green.

1st Round-Alternating offense/defense (Brown, DRC, Wells, Williams).
2nd Round-All defense (Branch, Campbell, Brown, Washington).
3rd Round-Alternating defense/offense (Buster, Doucet, Johnson, Roberts).
4th Round-All defense (Iwebema, Toler, Schofield).
5th Round-All offense (Breaston, Hightower, Johnson, Skelton).
6th Round-All defense (Harrington, Davis, Calvin).
7th Round All offense (Patrick, Keith, LSH, Canfield, Dray).

If this trend keeps up, the pick should come down to Green and Gabbert.

AJ Green would be the safe pick if you go by this:

- he is a sure star
- he would be the replacement of Q
- he would be insurance for Fitz
- the Cards can get a better QB in the next draft if the FA QB experiment fails again and even if it does not

But if they use the #1 pick on a WR they still have holes at TE and OL and OLB, SILB and possibly CB.

UNDERSTAND: It's very likely that Fitzgerald is gone after this season.

Yes they better think of bringing in A.J. Green.

and get rid of the dude with the man purse...time for a 'here's to you Mr. Man purse' song

I will not pay for Sunday Ticket to watch the Fitz farewell tour if the pick is a WR at #5.
