Move this thread to whereever you want mods. I havea hater onthis forum that is targeting me with some kind of redirect to random advertising virus. I got my lap topeformated a couple days ago, but it happens when I hang out here late at night. I dont know who it is, but the only nerd I know says it's probably coming from here. Love you guys, those that have my phone number, call me when the heat is over. This sucks for me, had t type this from my phone.

Whatever is jacking up your comp came from something else. No one can ship you a virus over a message board unless you click on some bad link they put up.

I should say - before I renewed my "Contributor" status, my anti-malware software was blocking a bunch of malicious crap from the ads here.

On that note, how much does it cost to host this messageboard - I would rather kick into an annual internal fundraiser andhave no ads for anyone than have to pay an unknown entity to be a Contributor. Maybe whoever 'owns' this site probably makes a small kickback with the ads approach, so that wouldn't be beneficial.

Yep.

Happens now and again on any site with google ads, or what have you.

Not much can be done about it, and I certainly don't blame this site for it. Google and the other ads companies are to blame, so make sure your rage is properly aimed.

Make sure your internet routers are looked at because that is where I found that last re-direct virus: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/websearch/LIWj6_ShmtM

I dabble in this stuff.

Best place to start is MajorGeeks.com: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Also, a free program called CCleaner, works wonders for clearing out your internet cache and temp files: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner

Remember to toggle your system restore at the end!

;)

Rugby has listed some good suggestions.

I use CCleaner and Defraggler from Piriform which is the company that runs them. They are free and both work good.

Also try Adblock plus and run Mozilla Firefox. This will block the ads and the spam that goes with it.

I also run Trend Micro anti virus which is a small cost to protect my computer.

I have adblock and DoNotTrackMe plug-ins for my Chrome browser. Also have Malwarebytes I run every week (more if it finds anything). The same with Microsoft Security Essentials (great free programs). I also run WiseCare365 a couple times a week. Fixes little random files. I'm on here ALL the time at night and I haven't picked up anything with any scanner. So either it was blocked or it's not here. BUT by having 2 plug-ins and running 3 free programs keep my computer clean, so it will do the same for you. I deleted all my old cookies when I installed the plug-ins to make sure nothing is tracking. Somebody isn't directly sending you a virus, but there is likely one in an ad. Think about it. Another team's fan butt-hurt or is just a punk, it makes perfect sense. When do you think said punk would want ad-space knowing there will be no ad revenue for him? The cheapest, the middle of the night

I got this same thing a couple weeks ago man, never thought it could have come from this board.. interesting. What I did was start my computer in safemode and run my anti-virus.

When you do get Trend Micro you can use it on 3 computers with the same registry number. Works great for me having kids with laptops.

It seems like Chrome is faster than IE for me. I don't know if that's true though...

You might try using Firefox in private browsing mode. Tell sites you do not want to be tracked and chose never remember history. Also check appropriate boxes in security. It may help.

No browser is safe, it's like saying Macs don't get viruses.

What's true is that the browsers and OS's that are not widely adopted are not as targeted by virus makers.

Because when someone wants to make and distribute the virus, they want it to spread as widely as possible, thus they tend to write it to explicitly infect the widest audience possible.

There's all sorts of malware scanners. Also know where you are clicking.

Some of the most infected sites have to do with hollywood gossip. So the next time you click on that link showcasing Lindsay Lohan's troubles....

Also what works if you can't fix it is to reinstall windows. You can do a repair install, or reinstall it on the same drive over the old one. Or you can do a fresh install.

Fresh install does wonders but the drawback is that you lose your programs and have to reinstall them. You can export your passwords and login in info before you do any of this. You can also, at least with firefox, do it afterwards if you google how to do it.

I also highly recommend having multiple hard drives, and putting your data on a separate drive. Thus say c:/ is your boot drive. But d:/ or whatever is where you put your data.

That way when you reinstall windows and clear the hard drive you don't lose your important data, just the hassle of reinstalling core programs. Oh and make sure if you have steam it isn't on your boot drive either as you don't want to have to re-download a few terabytes.

Another way is to partition your drive, so you can make one hard drive appear like 2. Or more even. But this is best done when the drive is empty. I still recommend 2 hd's (at least).

If you buy another hd, buy a solid state hd. Make it your boot drive. It's much faster and will drastically speed up the various malware and antivirus scans.

Most viruses come from websites. It can come from more nefarious places such as peer to peer sharing networks.

Some viruses are pretty much impossible to get rid of without a new windows install. Some you need to spend many hours doing all sorts of stuff manually deleting files in safe modes and stuff. Some can break aspects of windows itself. Some steal your data. Some turn your computer into a zombie which can be used in conjunction for mass hack attacks.

So be careful and just remember a boot drive is a great way to quickly reinstall windows and get back up and running. Just make sure you keep the data on another drive, and copy and paste your my documents, pictures, saves, etc. I suggest copy and paste because then you can remember exactly where to put it, the directory structure, if it's say game saves.

I too use adblock.

Behind you
ebay and amazon are the two worst and tracking you

you'll notice if you are on either of the two sites....all of your future ads will connect to what you shopped for on their sites.

run those system checks stated before and that should help.
