We've had all but three weeks (by the end of this week) of training camp and everyone seems to have a real defeatist attitude. Why?

a) Is it because we lost a meaningless pre-season game to an arguably Super Bowl bound team.......that was intent to play their starters for all of the 1st half to make a statement.

b) Is it because of Boldin/Shipp's injuries......(things that are totally beyond anyone's control)?

c) All of us armchair QB's questioning whether or not Green knows what he's doing (the O-Line debates......Shelton/ Kendall etc.)

d) Is it the honest realization that we are unlikely to be playoff bound this year (did we really believe Green when he said this)?

e) Is it because, after one pre-season game, McCown didn't throw for 300 yds. and 4 TD's and that a saviour didn't pop out of nowhere and run for 150 yds.

f) Is it because we didn't have any sacks and that we will have no pass rush this year ( man, Rome wasn't built in a day)?

As skoorp has said on numerous occasions......patience grasshopper!

Well put spanky. I'm with you but I think I am partially to blame because of my reporting from camp on the oline. I just watched the game and they didn't look that bad. I see upside.

I agree. I was expecting the worst when I watched the game and plesently surprised. I think the first team OL looked solid and only will get better with time.

It wouldn't be all surprising if we put a good whooping on both San Diego and Oakland the next two games. Then, the pendulum would wildly swing back in the other direction. Green would be a genius again, we'd have ten potential Pro Bowlers, ......

My dad and I watched the game (on fuzzy AZTV...urgh) and we were kind of worried at what we saw. I'm not sure if he's still amazingly worried, but I am not as much as I used to be. Thank goodness this is only the first preseason game...for if it wasn't, I'd be "pessimistically optimistic." Hopefully we'll improve, and if we do, I'll be celebrating among the (hopefully) many Cardinals fans in SDS. If we do not...my worries shall increase, but they won't culminate into frustration unless the lack of progress persists.

 Let's go, Cardinals. :cards: Keep on truckin'.

Week to week improvement. I don't care if we lose all 4 pre-season games as long as we see this team with some direction and the ability to improve.

The special teams have improved tremdously over last year. Now we need to work on the O and the D.

You left:

"Is it because the same core group of people keep attacking each other in thread after thread re-hashing the same (often weak) arguments/opinions over and over again as if they say it enough it will be true?"

off your list.

I never bothered reading/posting on the official website because it was basically like 10 people arguing with each other constantly. If you removed the names of the posters, you couldn't tell this forum from that one now. And that's just from observations since March.

I think people have extremely polarized attitudes in the Politics forum and now that mindset has spilled over into here. There's no middle ground it's Bush or Kerry or in the case of this forum For Green or Against Green. Very little in between, and very little fact.

Arthurracoon, BJ/Fitz/Dex I believe will be there on opening day. Boldin will be back by week 6, hopefully. Only Shipp is lost for the season. Keep the faith, there's not a lot floating around here lately. We need you on the Koolaid Kommittee

I would say that I say some good and bad with the game.

Good:

I dont recall people continually getting physically beat. Special teams was good. Front 7 tackled and hustled to the ball.

Bad:

To many mental errors. I watched the game now at least 3 times and looked for certain things and I noticed people just making the wrong decisions, for instance the first sack on Josh was due to our rookie center getting beat and AC trying to help him out and totally missed his assignment. So as he goes to help out his man runs down Josh who was rolling out towards him. COMPLETELY correctable!!!

So basically I am encouraged that this thing can get fixed once the mental errors are stopped.

I think alot of it is that they looked like the same old Mac Cardinals.

Too many penalities etc.

While some understand that it is just the 1st preseason game and many teams look this now, others have jumped on the "same ole Cards" bandwagon.

Mac's Cardinals looked like this in the 9th game of the season, I don't think that will be the case here.

If it is, Green will be pulling guys out of the stands to play as he will be cutting people in the middle of the game.

He isn't going to put up with any crap and that is just what this team has needed for years.

Out of those 5 players you mentioned only Shipp who will sit in the sidelines and not contribute.

I have ONLY (1) thing to say...

Don Coryell. (4-9-1) his 1st year, and play-offs (10-4) the next. (We started (7-0). Hel-lo?? Ok--one more point. I have yet to read (1) negative comment by NFL "execs". around the league about what DG is doing. Hel-lo?? I say. LET'S CHILL--PULL TOGETHER--EVERYONE!! GO CARDS!!

What did you expect ?

First game in a new system turn out to be just that. Players were THINKING more than they will in the future. If you have to think, then it's going to affect your aggresiveness.
Let's face it gang. This season is not going to be a walk in the park. There are going to be peaks and valleys.
My fear is that without Boldin in the lineup, a fast start to the season is going to be much more difficult. I will not be surprised if we start out 0-3 or 1-4. I'm afraid that fan enthusiasm and patience will wain VERY early. Many will jump off the ship and relegate this season to a "here we go again" or "it's the same ole' crap" attitude.
I am expecting a slow start and I also expect to see a gradual improvement. When we get to the last 4 games of the season i expect us to be a team that will ruin somebodys chance at a playoff and be a spring board into next year.
Give me 7-9 this year and I will be very happy.
