They don't understand that I'm into the Cardinals and am putting the Rams on the back burner. They all keep saying that when the Rams win the Super Bowl, don't come running back to the bandwagon and try and jump on.

And what's even a bit stranger is that more than a few of my new co-workers here in Phoenix chide me for abandoning the Rams for the Cardinals. The general tone is "Why follow a loser when you've got the Rams"? They don't seem to accept the fact that you can give up on a winner for the Cards.

And nobody seems to accept the concept of just being a fan of NFL football without being a fan of any team, especially when you live in an NFL city.

Wierd. Maybe I'm destined to live in LA.

I grew up in So. Cal. A Rams fan. Loved the Rams! Even after I moved to AZ in 1980. Lived and died with 'em.

When they moved to St. Louis that was it. For me, the Rams were dead. Now I hate their guts.

I became a fan of The Big Red and I've never looked back. You will be a better person for it in the end.

I know I am. ;)

You know what's even worse is that I think I might enjoy some kind of perverse pleasure in rooting for a serial loser like the Cardinals.

When the Rams went from 4-12 to Super Bowl champs it was an absolute magic carpet ride in St. Louis. Since then the expectations of superiority wrapped around the Ram's losing in the last two years has turned the place very, very sour.

Excuse me, but I need to enjoy life while I'm still alive.

There is nothing sweeter than cheering for an underdog, and watching them go all the way. The Dbacks win in 2001 was all the better since we in the valley had followed them through they're growing pains.

I recently moved to Nashville, but would feel guilty in a way jumping on the Titans wagon - I mean, I want them to do well, but since they have been so successful, it seems to easy to do.

Your not alone Minix....

I just got back from St. Louis, visiting my family...

I never heard the end of it, when the discussion turned to "football"....I was telling them how I am still a Die Hard Cardinals fan, and that they are all traitors for giving up on the Big Red.

I did thank them, though, for letting me have my team back. I moved to AZ about a year before the Cardinals came here. So I've been fortunate enough to have the Cards as my home team my whole life (save that one season)...

They laughed at me and told me how I was crazy to still support Bidwill. I told them that their owner (Georgia) is no peach. They are just typical Bandwagoners. We'll see what happens when the Rams fall back to earth....

Keep to your Cardinal convictions. It will make the victories that much sweeter. Then you can rub it in, when we reach the promise land!

Good point!

Now if I were you I'd get into the Titans, regardless of people labeling me a bandwagoner. I enjoy NFL football and don't let the opinions or labeling of others sway my enthusiasm.

It's where you live. It's not about winning per centages or play-off appearances.

oh - I will enjoy the Titans, but since I don't plan on making Nashville a permanent home, I will not give up on my Cards!

Are you really calling one losing season followed up by a hundred win season, and 86 win season and a Wolrd Series Championship growing pains? Hey I love the Backs and Game 7 was the greatest thrill of my life, but to say we went through growing pains is an insult to everyone who roots for the underdog.

When you throw in the stadium mess, the waiting for the franchise, expansion draft, etc yes. Not like some teams have had to go thru, but I have been following the Dbacks from Day 1.

I have to agree with this. As I recall that Series from my St. Louis perspective, there was no feeling of.. 'this ragged underdog coming out of nowhere to bring down the mighty Yankees...'

It was more '...well another team bought a championship...'

And St. Louis is a pretyy astute baseball city, possibly the best there is.

The growing pains from the D-Backs was watching the coming and going of players as the organization was trying to figure out what was needed. We watched them grow from a double A club to a World Series champ. Now that is a growing pain.

As for the World Series win, I had people calling me from all over the U.S. expressing their appreciation for us bringing down the mighty Yankees. Did any of those people think we had a rats butt chance of beating the Yankees, absolutely not!

You're not the only one. I too was devoted to the L.A. Rams!

I have also been a life-long Angels fan, being from Orange County, and seeing Anaheim win the World Series was definitely the most amazing sports moment of my life! I never thought I would live to see that.

There is hope for the (football) Cardinals.

What if George Washington would have given up on his troops at Valley Forge?

There's something to be said for loyalty. When the Cards finally win it all, it will be all the better because I was never had another team. Broncos Shmroncos, can you imagine the Cards holding the Lombardi trophy? How many bandwagonners will we have then?

Nice

I can only imagine the reaction of a Cubs or RedSox fan seeing those growing pains words applied to the Dbacks....

Kinda similar in my imagination to Spock getting a boiling oil enema .....

Good Lord there has to be some horrible psychological problem festering I need help after reflecting on that analogy.
