Suns laugh off Lakers coach Phil Jackson's comments about Steve Nash as 'typical Phil'

Best part of the article:

Nash even had a subtle retort worthy of Jackson himself.

"It's news to me. I'm fortunate. I don't know if I've been called for a carry yet," he said after the Suns practiced Saturday, then he added straight-faced: "I've never heard anyone accuse me of carrying it. I mean, the best coach in the league Gregg Popovich (of San Antonio) didn't have a problem with it last week."

AND THIS:

But the Phoenix coach added a jab at the Lakers when he was asked jokingly if the team worked on ball handling skills.

"We spent the day ducking elbows on post-ups, to see if we could duck elbows on post-ups, " Gentry said, a not-to-thinly veiled nod to the Lakers' style. "So it all works out, it all works out."

i don't know if this counts for anything in this series, but at the least, this team seems to have the attitude to beat a bully. From Frye's comments to Dudley's joking around to Nash and Gentry not letting Phil get under their skin, I love the approach this squad has to this series.

It's almost like we're basically just saying "BRING IT ON" and I like it.

I also find if VERY strange that Kobe's acting like he's still so butt-ass hurt by the tortilla he and his squad made in 2006 and the ass-whooping we gave them in 2007. Hey... Kobe you're the DEFENDING CHAMPION. Can't get much better scoreboard than that you schmohawk.

Actually, this sort of worries me. It means he's getting in their heads. Because that's what he does. He throws out this tiny little barbs that work like ear worms and eat you brains until you're flopping around like a hooked fish. Phil Jackson is an evil warlock. He's casting spells. He wants you focused on him so you look in his eyes and he can hypnotize you and then you stop playing basketball.

The best way to beat PJ is to ignore him.

Can't do that with the media. And if you just 'no comment' that looks weak and kinda guilty.

You smile, acknowledge you know it's a game he plays, and announce you're just interested in playing basketball.

Did you read the article aside from the jokes Gentry and Nash made? Sounds like that is what they are doing.

Nash:
"We have the best officials in the world," Nash continued. "I'll just leave it up to them."

Gentry:
"You guys got to admire Phil," Gentry said. "C'mon, the stuff that he throws out there, I mean I think it's great. He's very creative. There's a reason. But I think you've got to understand that there's kind of a method to his madness. If you let it affect you, then it will."

I expect Nash and Gentry to be above it, but I don't think they should have fired back.

That's pretty much what they did, except with a little humor thrown in. The media is the one that's going to blow this out of proportion.

Dude cmon, the media has been perpetuating this nonsense about the Zen Master and how Phil gets in peoples heads. It has nothing to do with the game or how he got 10 rings.

It's easy to be cocky and make comments and call them (Mind games) when you are coaching Michael Jordan, Shaq, and Kobe.

Uhh yeah, it wasn't that I coached the most talented teams of all time, it was my mind games that won us all these rings!

I guarantee you Phil isn't in Nash's head.

IMO, as much as it pains me to say it Pop is the best coach in the league. A blind half-wit could have won with the Bulls and with Shaq/Kobe, Kobe/Gasol. It doesnt take a genius to see that Phillip is a product of his players not the other way around.

I think this is mostly all in good fun for Steve and Gentry. However, there is a method to Phil's madness. It's lame on his part but I am sure he thinks he is helping his team by putting a bug in the officials ear. Steve sort of counteracted that by complimenting the officiating crew.

No, if PJ had gotten in their heads they would have defended themselves and lashed out against the claim. Instead, they threw back barbs... "hey, that's funny, but here is something for you."

Uh, no. The way you beat em' is by having the better team. They not be deep but they have those 3 guys (Kobe, Gasol and Bynum) that are as good as anyones big 3.

Jackson has always had great players and that's how he wins. He's no warlock, he has no magical spells he's just had the pleasure of coaching 3? of the greatest players in NBA history.

The radio stations here in San Antonio are going crazy playing the Steve Nash comments. Nash is quickly becoming sort of a folk hero here in San Antonio. It began when he came out of the locker room and with one eye closed still led the Suns to victory in game four.

Lots of interest in this WCF even without the Spurs being involved. Local radio hosts are firmly behind the Suns. They were before the Nash quote and they are even more so afterwards.

Typical PJ BS. Will be so glad when Phoenix shuts his mouth!
