The Northern Arizona University men’s basketball team was selected for the 40-team field for the National Invitation Tournament Sunday night. The Lumberjacks (21-10) will face MEAC regular season champion Delaware State (20-13) in Flagstaff Tuesday, March 14 in an opening round game. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
NAU was chosen as a No. 9 seed, while the Hornets were a No. 10 seed. The winner plays at West Region top seed Louisville in the first round Friday, March 17.

“We are excited to be a part of postseason play in the NIT,” said Head Coach Mike Adras. “It is great for our student-athletes and our fans to have another opportunity to play at the Skydome in Flagstaff.”

The NIT was selected for the first time by an at-large committee.

The Lumberjacks are making their fifth national postseason appearance in school history and third in the NIT. NAU also played in the NIT in 1986, a loss to Louisiana Tech 67-61, and 1997, a 101-75 loss at Arkansas. NAU also earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and 2000.

The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is the oldest tournament in college basketball. The NIT was started in 1938. It was the first national postseason collegiate tournament to be played in the country. The NCAA followed one year later.

The tournament was originally played entirely at Madison Square Garden in New York. The opening rounds of the tournament were later moved from New York to campus sites in 1977. The Garden was reserved solely for the semifinals and the finals. This is currently how the tournament is still played.

Current season ticket holders and Lumberjack Athletic Association (LAA) members may purchase tickets starting Monday, March 13 at 8 a.m. through the Athletics Department at 928-523-5353 until Monday at noon. Additional seats may be purchased at this time if a season ticket holder does not currently hold those seats. Fans interested in becoming a member of the LAA can contact the athletics department. Ticket prices range from $10-$30.

The general public can purchase tickets Monday, March 13 at noon online through the Ticketmaster website, by calling the Central Ticket Office on the campus of NAU at 928-523-5661, or in person at the Central Ticket Office on the campus of NAU in the University Union.

Students will be able to purchase tickets for $5.

Now this is where we might have to part ways D-back. Two of my best friends are Del State alumni. I always pull for the Hornets as my MEAC team. Should be a great game, but I need to see you guys take this L!:bigyawn:

Arizona, Arizona State, Air Force.

Our RPI is similiar to DSU.

Delaware had a rough start (2-10), but played a rough non-conference schedule. Like NAU, DSU ran through conference play with only 2 losses.

NAU lost 58-53. Had a chance to tie, but Steve Sir (nations's top 3-point shooter) missed a thirty-foot shot, then DSU made two free throws.

Still, a good season for a team not expected to do much this year.

A tad bit disappointing how things finished up for the Jacks, but it was still a rather good season regardless.

I wish Steve Sir played for UofA this year. He could've been Arizona's version of Wes Miller on UNC who does nothing but hang out on the perimeter and take open 3's.
