My thoughts on the new shows:

The Event: It's another attempt to create an X-Files, Lost, Fringe, whatever. What I saw of it I think they missed the point and created a show with a mythology and forgot to start with interesting characters. That's always a bad sign.

Chase: If you like In Plain Sight, you'll like this. Looks a lot like that show.

Undercovers: It looks like a hipper Chuck. JJ Abrams' next show.

Outsourced: I thought this was OK, but everyone else in my group was offended and thought it was unfunny. It has a look and feel of Community to me. It replaces Parks & Rec, which moves to a mid-season replacement slot.

Love Bites: This is very earnest attempt to reinvent Sex in the City, only I think they've actually hired to good writers to give it a different feel.

School Pride: It's Extreme Home for schools. Exact same format, except it's only 30 minutes long.

Outlaw: Jimmy Smits as a lawyer. *shrug* I've seen this before.

I won't talk about the new mid-season shows because they're not slated yet, but one interesting one I saw was called The Cape. Looks sort of interesting. Paul Reiser has a show that's a complete rip-off of Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's like Curb Your Enthusiasm C Team put together a show.

Outsourced is based on a really good movie. From the previews, it seems that this is more a satire and the movie was more realistic. I think the movie worked because it was real and I think the show will bomb.

Looking forward to Law and Order: LA. Want to see if they capture the flavor, vibe of LA like they did for NY.

I kept turning off SVU this past season. Used to be one of my favorites but the plot lines are so silly now. The writers seem to have forgotten how to write.

Thanks to Lost and 24, there are more and more mid-season shows coming to networks. NBC's sure-fire show for mid-season is Parks and Rec, so I'm not sure I'd call it "demoted".

Besides, I've heard rumors that Outsourced isn't very good, so maybe after a few weeks, Parks & Rec WILL be back. ;)
