Sounds like progress, awesome!
I've had the most wonderful day in my life.
My son is going to survive. He has been off the respirator for 36 hours and his body has responded. They broke the fever. His vitals have not only remained good, they have improved.
He has a long road of therapy and we are not sure how long he will remain hospitalized. He is very weak. He could hardly push the buttons on the tv remote, but he is out of the woods. He is dealing with what they call ICU delirium so although he is somewhat cognizant he is sometimes confused. That's perfectly normal for what he's been through.
Three days ago doctors would not assure or predict he was going to make it. Tonight we watched the Blackhawk game together as he cherished a simple bottle of diet Sierra Mist....and I cherished watching him drink it!
Thank you so much for your prayers and donations. He is already freaking out about when he can back to work. Wait until he finds out that all the benefits people have put together have raised nearly $13,000. No where near the amount needed to pay the hospital bills ( who cares?) but enough to pay his mortgage and feed his family for a couple of month's if he is not able to return to work for a while.
I am the luckiest man in the world. Through all this I have discovered that I am surrounded by a circle of friends second to none. YOU are all a part of that circle. Though we live in different parts of the country your compassion , prayers and love is indescribable.
As I have said over and over again, I can never repay all the love but I promise for the rest of my days on this earth I will forever pay it forward.
In closing, when he was lying there in a coma, I promised him that I would treat him to a football game in Arizona on my dime. I even told him it would be the Sunday Night game vs Baltimore. Guess I can back out now.
Maybe we'll be able to hook up with some of you then and we can toast a drink to life.
Love you all.

I apologize if this is too nosy...
But have they figured out the reason for his pancreatitis?
Not too nosy at all.
They only have a theory. They believe it started with a gall stone that moved to the pancreas duct and blocked it. The pancreas started leaking enzymes
into the body which seemed to attack his left lung. They believe the stone passed rather quickly but the damage had already begun. Him being a smoker ( not any more!) hampered the situation. His lungs filled with fluid and he was on antibiotics, none of which seemed to be working to reduce the fever. The pancreas slowly began returning to normal but the fever was not going down. They kept switching antibiotics to try to find the right one or combination of the right ones. Finally as his lung fluids began to diminish, the pancreas calming down and the right combo of antibiotics his fever started to drop.
However, with all the antibiotics he developed c-dif in his lower bowels because all the good bacteria was destroyed from all the antibiotics. That is now being treated and had no effect on his fever.
It was a catch 22. Time was of the essence so they weren't going to wait to find the "right " antibiotic so they thru everything at him. They will never really know what was the absolute cause or the absolute cure but this is their theory.
Friday update. Major hurdle today. They experimented taking him off the resirator ( to our shock) and he was strong enough to maintain breathing on his own with an oxygen mask. They took him off all sedatives and for the first time in 10 days he was able to open his eyes and communicate.
Doctors warned us there are many things that can still turn this whole situation south. He must maintain his vitals and of course continue to the ability to breathe while they start to ween him off the mask. They warned us he could end up back on the respirator should any of the above go backwards. So please , PLEASE continue to pray for him.
I'll close with this. While he was coming out of his sedatives they asked him questions.
What year was it? He responded 1915.
Who was the President? He said Clinton.
About an hour later his wife and I started asking similar questions.
I asked, Who is your favorite football team?
He whispered...I kid you not, Arizona Cardinals!
Guys we are 1 day away from really breaking out of the dark. Tonight is huge. Tomorrow could be a wonderful day or it could be a major setback. I'm sticking with wonderful.
