Maybe I'm old fashion but I like optical drives.

More and more I'm looking to buy my computers through Walmart because of their return policy.

What kind of games? He'd need a decent GPU to play most any modern game. But that will put you inter a higher price bracket.

This. It's a very nice laptop for the price but the ability to play games will be somewhat limited with a built in graphics processor on the I3.

Fry's is good. Their salespeople are very helpful.

But if you know what you want, Costco usually has good laptops on sale for cheap as well.

Mom has nixed the idea...

Why? The sooner he gets used to computers the better
chance he has in college and to be successful in life.

My nephew games a lot. He never plays on a laptop. He has consoles, and by consoles I mean every one ever invented.

Divorce gets parent competition. Not fun.
