Netflix price increase

I watch off of my Tivo and I have no complaints about the quality. It isn't perfect all the time but the HD stuff is pretty good. I'm probably not the best source for this though as I really only use it to stream TV series. If it's a blockbuster type movie I'm going to still want to watch it on Blu-Ray as the sound is always so much more dynamic.

I tried Netflix streaming for a month and hated the quality of the playback. Has Netflix addressed this?? I want true HD streaming but never seemed to get high quality video and sound.

Any feedback about current quality???

It's not HD, but I don't have an issue with it.

I think it is HD. The streaming picture (on HD TV shows and the few movies I've watched) is slightly better than the picture I get off of FIOS HD channels. I really haven't even noticed much of a difference in video between the best picture I get from Netflix and my Blu Ray player. As I mentioned earlier, I do notice a loss on the audio side but other than the occasional artifacts, I have no complaints about the HD picture. It's only 720P but that is still HD.

Download speed isn't my issue.... I am not happy with the playback. It is often grainy and not 720 or 1080. I have tried my Wii and my Samsung Blu ray player and both were poor.

I usually use my xbox or computer. I have to say the quality on my wii is subpar.

Keep in mind that a Wii only has a composite output, which is at best 480p (SD). The next generation "Wii U" will support HD resolution at 1080p.

I watch Netflix on a Vizio HDTV through Vizio Internet Apps and the quality and resolution is on par with 1080p content to me.

Good point, I'd forgotten about the Wii limitations. Also, your internet connection will have something to do with it. If you do not have an internet data cap, you can adjust the quality available. If you click on account info and scroll down a bit you'll see an option "manage video quality" from which you can select one of three settings (good, better, best).

I prefer my Wii for Netflix with the current output. I have a 360 and I have a Blu Ray DVD Netflix player. The Wii rules. I love the interface (although the controller is too damned sensitive). It is hands-down the best navigation and search experience. The picture quality is good for my eyes and I have a 42" 1080p hooked to my Wii (and 360).

I have my Wii hooked up to the same kind of setup but I can't really stand to watch anything on it. My Tivo works just fine for navigation and search and I get a much better picture through it than with the Wii. I'm not too thrilled with the interface off of any of my Blu Ray players so I don't use them for streaming ever. I don't know what I'd do if my choice were between using a Wii or a Blu Ray player for Netflix - perhaps I'd make the same choice as you.

PS3 > 360 > Wii surprisingly. This is coming from someone who prefers the 360 over the PS3 on just about everything.

The menus are much easier to navigate and the searching and interface is just better on the PS3.

I would have paid about a 25% increase. 60% is way too much.

I will be going from the 1 DVD/Blu out + streaming to streaming only. I need to watch a lot of older/indie/Japanese stuff that is only available on disc soon.

Redbox rents movies at $1 and $1.5 for Blu and Blockbuster rents Blu for $1 still I believe. Time to actually make the switch. (or watch the dozens of movies/tv shows I have on my shelves unwatched)

Some more changes by Netflix. Now you have to pay more by adding another dvd to your account if you want more than 1 streaming account device (used at the same time). LAME. I know it was technically their policy all along for an account not to use more than once device at the same time but it appears now they're enforcing it.

This doesn't affect me, but this will definitely affect families with kids or large households using more than 1 streaming device.

Over the last couple of days, some Netflix users have reported getting error messages whenever they tried to view Watch Instantly video streams on two different devices at the same time. While some reports have suggested that along with instituting a price hike September 1st it also decided to start cracking down on multiple streams, it turns out there's a simpler explanation. According to spokesman Steve Swasey, the policy is still the same and no Netflix member is limited to less than two streams at once. The messages people are seeing indicating otherwise? An "error" the company is correcting. Glitches suck, and are becoming a bit too routine on the service for our liking -- Hacking Netflix reports another blip caused S1 of Star Trek: TNG to disappear temporarily over the weekend -- but the rumors of a change in policy just aren't true, so keep that subscription canceling finger holstered for now.

Glad it's not true! Although I can totally see Netflix doing this in the future, booo.

StoptheCap reported that Netflix was enforcing a single stream per account and had an error screen to back it up (and a bunch of sites picked up the story without verifying it with Netflix), but Steve Swasey, Netflix's VP, Corporate Communications, told HackingNetflix:

"No Netflix member is limited to less than two concurrent streams. A few Netflix members have heard differently from us, which is an error that we are correcting."

Probably has some. Licensing deals will keep going up causing Netflix to raise their price every few years or so until it reaches cable type numbers unfortunately.

It's funny but the way they handled it might actually keep me. I was on a free 1 month trial and had planned to drop after because I wasn't using it that much. But I was impressed with the way they informed people and promised the no raise for 2 years thing.

So I'm actually going to stick with them for now, there are still lots of things on Netflix I can't get via On Demand.

I thought they did a great job handling it and I would gladly pay the extra dollar even if I didn't get a 2 year guarantee. Netflix streaming is awesome. I watch it all the time at home, on my phone and tablet. That have tons of good movies and TV shows and It's an awesome value for 7.99 or 8.99 a month. Just IMO I remember when Blockbuster thought they were the king of the mountain and got to the point where it was 8 dollars to rent a new release. Now I get unlimited movies all month for that price. Technology rocks. Good job Netflix

If you're looking for a movie or show that is not currently streaming in the US but available from netflix, get the Hola extension for Chrome, visit moreflicks.com or a similar site to find the movie or show you want to watch, and to find out the country it is streaming in. Now log into netflix, change the home country with the Hola extension, and a new netflix will load, showing whatever is currently streaming in the country you chose.

I've only used it on my PC, so I have no idea if you can do the same on your phone/tablet or another device. The extension changes the country you appear to be in for that session, so Netflix will think you're loading from whatever country you specify. It won't affect your other devices.

It doesn't look like the series if available on Netflix, here or the UK. By the way, this should work with any media that isn't currently available in your country.
