The Brooklyn Nets are nearing the end of a 2024-25 NBA season that saw them go from overachieving in the beginning to faltering towards the end of the campaign. As Brooklyn seeks to finish the season on a strong note, they will be trying to do so without two players that have been key members of their rotation over the past couple of years.
The Nets announced on Tuesday that forward Cam Johnson and center Day'Ron Sharpe will be out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Toronto Raptors with their respective conditions. Johnson will be missing the game due to rest while Sharpe is dealing with a right knee sprain that he may have picked up during Monday's 120-101 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
Johnson, 29, is coming off another solid game for the Nets as he dropped 17 points and eight assists in Monday's loss to the Mavericks while shooting 46.2% from the field, but just 14.3% from three-point land. Wednesday will be the second time in four games that Brooklyn will be resting Johnson during a season that he has mostly been available for a Nets team that is struggling to win games since the All-Star Break.
Sharpe, 23, had one of his better all-around games this season as he put up 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in just 24 minutes off the bench for the Nets. After missing Brooklyn's first 21 games this season with a left hamstring strain, Sharpe has played in 50 of the following 51 games for the Nets, showing that he overcame his hamstring issue enough to be available for virtually every game.
In what is good news for the Nets, guard D'Angelo Russell is available for Wednesday's contest against Toronto after missing the past two games due to right ankle soreness. Head coach Jordi Fernandez said recently that Russell being out of the lineup for Saturday's 108-103 loss at the Indiana Pacers was just precautionary so the hope is that Russell will be able to take the floor without any restrictions.
Nets say that Cam Johnson (rest) and Day'Ron Sharpe (right knee sprain) are OUT for Wednesday vs. the Raptors.
D'Angelo Russell, who has missed the last 2 games with right ankle soreness, is AVAILABLE.
Reece Beekman, Tyson Etienne, and Tosan Evbuomwan remain in the G League.
