NEW YORK -- The Brooklyn Nets (23-50) have just nine games left in their 2024-25 NBA season as they seek to finish the campaign strong while evaluating some of the lesser-used players on the team. One of the players on the team, forward Noah Clowney, has shown moments of brilliance, but it's possible that he could miss more valuable development time this season.
The Nets announced on Thursday that Clowney is probable for Friday's game against Ben Simmons and the Los Angeles Clippers as he is dealing with soreness in his right wrist. Clowney played 28 minutes in Wednesday's 116-86 to the Toronto Raptors, but he had one of his worst games of the season as he put up just five points, five rebounds, and two steals, but was also dealing with some wrist issues, according to head coach Jordi Fernandez.
"You guys have seen that his wrist is taped and a little banged up," Fernandez said following Wednesday's loss to the Raptors. "I think he got hit. Nothing concerning, but he was not comfortable. He's shooting with his wrist taped, and you can tell that he's getting frustrated. I'm asking him to not be frustrated, to keep shooting it. If it doesn't go in, it's my fault. I just need him to have that good, positive energy and play the game."
Whether Clowney ends up playing on Friday is left to be seen, but there are other players that are less likely to play than Clowney with their respective injuries. Backup center Day'Ron Sharpe is out for Friday's matchup against Los Angeles as he continues to deal with his right knee sprain while forwards Trendon Watford and Ziaire Williams are questionable as they are dealing with an illness.
While Sharpe was unable to take the floor Tuesday against the Raptors, Watford and Williams were able to play and both had solid performances in a game that became a blowout in the first quarter. Williams put up 13 points and six rebounds in 27 minutes while Watford dropped nine points, four rebounds, and three assists in 26 minutes off the bench.
Nets say that Noah Clowney (right wrist soreness) is PROBABLE Friday vs. the Clippers.
Trendon Watford (illness) and Ziaire Williams (illness) are QUESTIONABLE.
Day'Ron Sharpe (right knee sprain) is OUT.
Reece Beekman, Tyson Etienne, and Tosan Evbuomwan are in the G League.
