NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets second-year forward Noah Clowney has had his ups and downs this season, especially when it comes staying on the floor to continue his development. Clowney recently went down with yet another ankle sprain and while he has come back multiple times from various injuries this season, this injury will be the one that unfortunately ends his 2024-25 season.

"Noah is not going to play. He's not going to play this season. The way the ankle sprain (is), I'm pretty sure you guys see it in the boot," Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez said after Wednesday's practice. Clowney sprained his right ankle in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 115-112 win at the Washington Wizards, but Fernandez said prior to Monday's 113-109 win at the Dallas Mavericks that Clowney was in a walking boot and would be assessed once the team got back to Brooklyn.

With Clowney ruled out for the rest of this season, he will end his second year in the NBA having shown some promise, but also leaving some questions unanswered with regard to his development within the Nets' system. Clowney averaged 9.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 35.8% from the field and 33.3% from three-point land.

Clowney's shot diet changed drastically from last season to this season and the difference is in how many of his shots are coming from behind the three-point line. Clowney averaged 2.4 two-point attempts this season, down slightly from his 2.6 two-pointers attempted last season, but his three-point attempts per game have increased significantly, going from 1.4 three-pointers attempted per game last season to 5.7 three-point attempts per contest this season.

Clowney now joins De'Anthony Melton and Cam Thomas as Nets that have been ruled out for the rest of the season with their respective injuries. Melton had season-ending ACL surgery prior to coming to Brooklyn via a trade from the Golden State Warriors while Thomas suffered a left hamstring strain that is expected to sideline him for the rest of a season that was difficult for him to navigate due to a troublesome hamstring.
