I wonder how hard KD had to sell Nash on coaching Kyrie. He's the X-Factor there. Either he'll be the reason they're contending for a title or that Nash gets shown the door early. I'm leaning towards being shown the door early, unfortunately. I can't see Nash surviving his contract unless they trade Kyrie and the return for him won't be great so who knows what'll happen there. I do wish him luck though.

Hopefully the Nets have tied their ship to Durant and Nash. Maybe the Nets are regretting signing Kyrie already.

A great opportunity for MVSteve. Who better to be a first-time Head Coach
than a pure Point Guard -- and one of the best. The "coach on the court".

I'm sure he'll be surrounded with a proper mixture of specialist Assistants,
as it should be.

"Rooting for you, Steve."

So another white dude gets a head coaching gig while having a zero coaching resume while about 80% of the league is minority?

Many minorities disagree. But what do I know, I am a white dude. Just trying to see their side.

Whose side? I haven't seen any calls of racism with this hire on Twitter or Reddit, which are usually hotbeds for that sort of thing.

Nash is a 2 time MVP that helped change the way NBA basketball is played when he returned to Phoenix in 2004. He was the GM of Canada's national team for 7 years and had been a consultant with the Warriors for the last 4 years. So his resume isn't bare, it's more than guys like Kidd, Doc Rivers, Mark Jackson, Steve Kerr, or Isiah Thomas, all who were listed as PG's who went from player to head coach without being an assistant coach.

A coach shouldn't be hired for the color of his skin regardless what that color might be. Team's should be hiring based on what they think will be the best fit for their players and for the way they want their team to play. If they believe Nash is the right guy for the job than that is who they should hire, regardless of how stacked his resume is or isn't...

Most of the reasons for hiring Nash have been discussed but I think the Nets are trying to find someone like Steve Kerr who is a players coach, who can relate to the players and specifically star players like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

It's a player's league and not everyone has the right temperament to coach them. I think Nash does. He very open minded, a good communicator and is aware of the social issues that plague our society.

I can see the point with Nash not having a resume. He did Manage and GM the Canadian National Hockey Team. ALso, we are talking a two rime MVP Point Guard, and a person revered in basketball for his basketball IQ. Finally, at least one African American player in Kevin Durant lobbied for Nash's hire over the current African American coach.

Apparently no white guy can ever be hired again without it being a racism based move. Screw that. Nash is gold.

It does however continue the Suns remarkable streak of having its guards become NBA head coaches. Paul Westphal, Danny Ainge, Jeff Hornacek, Scott Skiles, Frank Johnson, Jason Kidd, Steve Kerr, and now Steve Nash joins that notable group.

The overly PC culture is weird. I've now seen some claiming an African American should have been hired instead of Nash but Nash himself was actually born in Africa so it makes the verbiage a bit ridiculous. I know Nash is recognized as a Canadian since that's what his mother is and where he was raised but he spent his first 18 months in Johannesburg.

Charles Barkley got it right on the hiring of Steve Nash to be the Nets head coach amid criticism by some it was white privilege.

From Jeremy Cluff Arizona Republic:

"Steve Nash is a great player and a good dude. But I was so disappointed in some of these guys. I was like, ‘Dude, Black guys have done this before.’ Now, do we need more Black coaches in the NBA? Yes. Do we need more Black coaches in college football? Yes. Do we need more Black coaches in pro football? Yes. But this wasn't the right time to say that today. Good luck to Steve Nash."

We come in all different colors. Someone’s skin color doesn’t determine what race they are

That's what I said! :) People confuse race and nationality all the time!
