Why not ? He is still a good shoot blocker, rebounder. Thats much better than Lopez....

Hmm, Switf wasn't injuried but basicly abandoned ever since he was traded to New Jersy. The Nets are rebuilding around their young bigs, taken Swift as just expiring contract and rarely let him play.

I think Gooden is many times better. But if we are out of option ...

Possitive side is, he is still a very athletic 6-10, can rebound and block a bit, with plenty of NBA experience. I would take him rather than any D-League boy.

Swift would be a nice pick up for the Suns.

Ill take Stro-Show in a heartbeat!

His mother recently died, and we've seen how that can cause players to slump. (Barnes last season, LB for a couple months this season)

Swift is 29 already, not young any more. I would be surprised if he can still leap like that. But even if he only got half of that left, he would fit SSOL and Nash's passing well, a lot of ally-oops waiting to happen.

The bad part is, he is not a rebounder for his size and position, as bad as Amare. Gooden is much better. Though as I recall his time in Houston, his defence was not very bad, acceptable one on one against most of PFs, can go to perimeter and defend P&R a bit.

I would welcome any veteran big man at the 13th slot that can play some at the 4/5. I haven't watched Swift play much in years but I at least know he used to have an NBA game. This is enough for me at this point in the season.

The difference is that we don't have a chance at Gooden.

He would be the best solution.

1. We offer him the best chance to play.
2. Athletically he fits the best.
3. I think its unlikely that he will get a bigger contract in the offseason unlike Gooden, so the Suns could probably keep him on a cheap contract for a couple more seasons as a decent backup.

I think we have as much chance as any other teams if Sarver wants to.

From ESPN

Smith was coveted by a number of teams because of his experience and the fact that he has a $4.8 million expiring contract. Cleveland's need became greater when Ben Wallace went down Friday with a broken leg. He is expected to miss four to six weeks. The San Antonio Spurs were also reportedly interested in Smith, but the Cavs can offer a prorated share of its midlevel exception totaling about $3.5 million. The Spurs can only come up with about $1.5 million.
The Cavs will get Joe Smith, so we only need to out-bid the 1.5M of the Spurs. We have only spent 1.7M of our MLE on Dragic, much more than enough left.

Just make it clear, I don't know if Gooden fit us. Personally I don't really like him. He is that type of player who can always get good stats while contribute little to team victory. Ask Arwillan, he can tell a lot about it.

Why would he want to? Sarver has publically stated that he would go over the luxury tax with more players if he thought that they would help us win the championship. I don't think Drew Gooden is enough of a difference maker to make it worth it for Sarver.

Let's not start in the Sarver cheap arguments. He proved he wasn't by keeping this team together for one more run.

Agreed. I am not a huge Sarver fan but I think you have to give credit where credit is do. Sarver could have saved himself a lot of money but chose to give this roster one more shot. But of course the man won't get any credit for that from people around here because they simply want something to whine about.

Swift is a better defender IMO then Joe Smith. I would be all for this. It's not like we need the guy to come in here and score points.

We are in desperate need of big bodies, he would certainly fit the bill. Seeing that his greatest success is in wide open running offenses, I think he would be a great addition.

Absolutely. He's fun to watch. Another high flier on the team that can play decent defense.

Coro has written that the Suns are officially targeting Stromile Swift.

Wow, really? Cool! Swift's few good stretches during his career have come when an injury ahead of him has forced him into big minutes with no one looking over his shoulder. If his health is up to it, he could contribute. I don't know anything about him defensively, but it's probably safe to assume that he's awful.

Sounds like the prototypical Suns player to me! :D
