saw in some other blogs that Swift will be signing with the Suns and possibly fly to Houston for his debut. Don't have a reliable source so just chill :D

Wow, really? Cool! Swift's few good stretches during his career have come when an injury ahead of him has forced him into big minutes with no one looking over his shoulder. If his health is up to it, he could contribute. I don't know anything about him defensively, but it's probably safe to assume that he's awful.

From what I recall his defense actually isn't bad. He's quick, and should be able to improve the Suns P&R defense (though I could probably improve it) and he's a good shot blocker.

He's a dominant defensive player. Just look at the highlights. You might call him a poor-man's Amare on the defensive end.

You learn quickly. Way to show restraint on the thread-starting. :D

Suns looking to sign Stromile Swift
by Paul Coro

It sounds like the Suns could have their replacement power forward soon.
Phoenix has targeted Stromile Swift, a 6-foot-10 power forward and nine-year NBA veteran, after New Jersey bought out his contract Sunday after he played in only six games this season. He was away for the Nets for six weeks to tend to his mother, who passed away Jan. 27 after a decade-long bout with kidney disease.
Swift, 29, returned to the team two weeks ago and was close to being activated when the Nets agreed to buy Swift out so he could seek a team that could give him playing time. Swift never lived up to his billing as the 2000 draft's No. 2 pick but is an athletic player who could fill some of the role vacated by Amare Stoudemire, who is likely out for the remainder of the regular season with a detached retina. http://gannett.gcion.com/?adlink/5111/332309/0/170/AdId=247532;BnId=4;itime=31720739;
Swift has averaged 8.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks with 20.0 minutes per game in his career, almost all of which was spent with the Grizzlies.
The Suns roster is currently one below the NBA 13-man minimum. Phoenix has to sign another player in the next week.

Usually I only care about what a player can bring to the Suns, I don't give a rip about whether they get paid enough or like the weather or what have you. But I would be happy for Stromile Swift if he came to Phoenix and got some support from LB and Matt Barnes. It's kind of becoming an adult orphans club, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The Suns used to have a reputation for being a well run and caring organization. I wouldn't mind having this label back. It also used to help a lot with FAs.

For me, targeting Swift is a clear sign of how reluctant our FO is to add a big... Damn SAVER. Gooden is right right and we can offer more money than the Spurs.

But, after all, I'll take any 6-10 veteran, the team needs. For God's sake, we don't want Sims to be the only option.

LOL, really? Did you ever think that maybe Gooden would rather go to the Spurs? But, hey, bashing Sarver is what's hot right now. So it's not a surprise. I'm not the biggest Sarver fan, but he did decide to keep Amare and Shaq instead of saving money with a bad deal.

That is one story if we offered Gooden the money but he chose to go to San Antonio. That is another if we made no attempt to sign him at all.

The Celtics, Spurs, Mavs, Cavs, are all free to spend, adding whatever pieces they need. How could we compete with them with our hands tied?

WTF is so great about an injured Gooden, chill on the Sarver bashing. I personally prefer Swift over Gooden, Gooden just sometimes seem like a malcontent.

I was thinking of a nice way to put this as well.

I hope LB and Barnes click with him right away so they can all feed off of one another. People are always stronger and filled with more energy when they can share their hardships.

Injured vets, players who lost loved ones, journeymen looking for a change of pace. Phoenix is the modern day fountain of youth.

I said earlier, I'm not sure if Gooden fit us. I don't know if Gooden is actually better than Swift as their stats difference showed. But stats wise, Swift is nothing but dust now.

Though, for me, Gooden is "stats master" type of player who always get the numbers regardless of team record ...

Gooden would be a great fit to help spread the floor with Shaq. He rebounds, has a great mid range shot and is a solid man defender. Gooden is clearly the superior choice, but Swift will do just fine if his hustle and energy are there.
