Not hostility, just almost a total disinterest in the Suns

I agree, JCSunsfan. The training camp articles are out there, but I think the Suns FO would have done well to open training camp this season to the public... not just a scrimmage. Invite fans to be a part of the Suns rebuild. This is an opportunity missed. I'm excited about watching the new Suns but they seem remote at this moment until live action starts.

no kidding that things would have been better if camp was open. pretty disappointing, its funny hearing kids on campus talk so negatively about the suns as they pass by their dining room.

Really low interest here. It seems like we had an exciting team several years back with some good pieces in place to keep it going or at least move for good talent. Cheap management, bad roster moves and little hope for getting out of the hole has lead me not to want to spend much energy on the suns.

Not going to jump to another NBA team, but it just feels like some others are more committed to winning rather than just "getting by"

I remember when I was in college, no one I knew had any interest in the NBA. It was in Indiana and the locals weren't even much interested in the Hoosiers, Purdue or Notre Dame - it was the high school teams that captured their enthusiasm.

If Saver hadn't fired Blanks my interest in the team would have continued its downward spiral - we've known for a few years that the team would go through some lean years post Nash but Blanks turned it into a quagmire. If he'd have hired Hornacek that would have brought a flicker of interest but I'd have still had the sinking feeling that the coach wouldn't matter a whole lot with Blanks as GM. The guy is a genius at dredging up mediocrity (or worse) and over paying for it at that.

Thank goodness we have bits of news dribbling in from training camp. I particularly liked Hornacek's response when he was asked about how the players looked on defense - he said they all sucked. They looked like they were so afraid to get beat off the dribble they were laying way back. Its clear he isn't going to be happy until they start attacking the ball. How refreshing not to get 'spin'.

I'd like to watch some preseason games or training camp scrimmages. Hope you guys post links if you see em. About 10000 times more interesting to follow the Suns this year than last year. I'm a fan through thick and thin, and well, they've been thinner, but not much.

In the franchise rankings on espn, the Suns were ranked 118 out of 122 from the "big four sports." Sarver was ranked the second worst owner in pro sports. That tells me the whole story.

Sarver is not a very likable guy and I think that heavily influences rankings such as this. I haven't looked at the criteria they used but I find it hard to believe there is any truly objective rating system that would put us that low. We're in bad shape but this seems over the top.

How is that even possible?

It has to do with Derrick Hall

He is the primary reason the Diamondbacks were chosen the best sports organization to work for in the world by the United Nations and why the team has on several occasions been listed among the best employers in Arizona and beyond.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=sh-henson_derrick_hall_diamondbacks_best_work_cancer_013012

In his eight years at the helm of the club, Hall has turned the organization into a model franchise within the sports industry and throughout the business world. He focuses the organization's efforts in five areas he has called the "Circle of Success" - fan experience, performance, community, culture and financial efficiency - each of which has seen tremendous success during his tenure. The unique corporate culture of the D-backs, which was created by Hall, led Yahoo! to deem the club as "the best workplace in sports." He was recently featured on Bloomberg News for his unique leadership qualities and approach to running a franchise.

Are the SUNS still purple and orange? I haven't bothered to check since Sarver changed everything else.

Weird- knowing we'd be awful and directionless last year, I was pretty checked out. Now that we have some young talent to get excited about and a new GM, I'm looking forward to the re-build.

Whether we try or not, I anticipate Gortat will be traded, we'll end up between 20-30 wins, and be in position for another top 5 pick in a loaded draft.

At least this year we appear to be going somewhere, and that's a huge improvement.

It would be sweet to have three first round picks in the 2014 draft.

Affordability, customer service, percentage of winning seasons, talent level, management, ownership, ect...

Apparently it is a very large equation voted on by sports fans.

Yeah, whether we used them, or as part of a trade for a bigger piece, I anticipate that will be the strategy. (Or at least what McD has espoused)

The Diamondbacks were ranked #6 out of 122 franchises.

Please explain. The article I referenced said the D'backs were rated 30th. I would think that being rated 115th for coaching would ruin their chances for being chosen sixth overall.

They rank the Diamondbacks 30th, giving them a very high mark (second) for "bang for the buck" and very low (115) for "coaching."

They are three spots ahead of the Cardinals.

That would be last season's Super Bowl Cardinals.

Actually, 33 is probably stratospheric for the Cardinals, but this is supposed to be based on what fans want and if a Super Bowl team in a state-of-the-art stadium with an up-and-coming coach isn't it, well, what do they want?

It ain't what they're getting from the Diamondbacks.

They have the Suns ranked 86th - only two spots ahead of the Coyotes.

There is this crazy thing called internet search engines. Here is how they work:

#1. Type in www.mylazyasscantgoogleonmyown.com

Oh no that is wrong. It is www.google.com

#2. In the box type in "Franchise Rankings ESPN"

voila, you get this link

http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/teamrankings

From there you can click on their name and like magic you are taken to this page:

I expect interest to rise again next season (unless the Suns miss out on a top rookie).

Thank you, Super Moderator, for your sincere response to my asking you to explain your source.

Perhaps we don't all have the time to fact-check ESPN before posting to a thread. This ain't a job for most of us, it's a leisure activity! Don't take that away from us. :)

Hey ask a certain type of question, get a certain type of answer.

Coaching was in the 30s btw. Again this appears to be fan rankings though, which is why I tied to "team interest"
