The arrival of Grady Jarrett should not only be a welcomed addition to the Chicago Bears locker room, but it should also help the team's star pass rusher Montez Sweat.
In 2024, his first full season with Chicago after a mid-season trade in 2023, Sweat finished with just 5.5 sacks on the year, which was a team high. Adding a defensive tackle such as Jarrett will bring a veteran presence, who is known to be a disruptor in the middle of the defensive line, and should open up plenty of opportunities for Sweat to terrorize opposing quarterbacks.
During his first press conference as a member of the Bears, Jarrett was asked about his new teammate and showered him with praise. Similar to what the organization saw in Sweat, Jarrett said he's been dominant throughout his career and he feels fortunate to play next to him.
"Big time, I've known Montez Sweat who is an Atlanta guy," Jarrett said. "Haven't gotten to spend much time with him, but mutual respect. For the Bears to bring him here, that says a lot about how they feel about him too. The guy has been dominant, I'm fortunate to play with him."
Jarrett and Sweat will be the unquestioned leaders on the defensive line, and their presence will be needed for new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen who looks to bring back dominance to the Bears defense.
