Question: if emmitt walks away - is there any cap hit for us? not sure how that works..I know he signed a two year deal.

Would like to know if he is vacating his rental house in Paradise Valley....

Watching the last part of the game over, Emmitt was the guy that grabbed the football from under the pile after the sack on 3rd down and ran it to an official so they could get the ball set quickly.

If he didn't react as quickly as he did - a very veteran savvy move - we might not have gotten that play off in time.

I think that was the one of the best plays Emmitt made all year, possibly only topped by the screen play from earlier in the game.

That is a question I have as well.

If a coach quits, then they are not paid...but of course, coaches salaries are not counted in the cap.

Yes even if he retires whatever is remaining on his signing bonus counts against the cap.

They can work something out. Deion Sanders had a huge bonus due but they worked out cap relief with the Redskins.

Think he was a few years into a 7 yr contract. I seem to recall something about the Lions trying to get the money from the signing bonus back from him.

That 36 yard screen pass to Emmitt was a thing of beauty. I hope the new coach knows how to organize and run a Packeresque screen pass, a thing of beauty if run correctly. If we have to take a cap hit even if Emmitt leaves, I wouldnt mind if he stayed. I think he has a year of good football left in him under a good coaching staff, maybe use him like we used Centers as a receiver out of the backfield. Emmitt brings an awareness of the game that is lacking on the team; I recall in the Carolina game him calling a timeout when the snap was going to be too late. Its probably my heart talking, but Emmitt deserves to go out on a high note.

As far as Emmitt....I wonder if he decided to end his playing career, would he still remain with the Cardinals in some capacity? Probably either a RB coach or in some consultant role.....

I'd bet Emmitt is waiting to see who the coach will be before he says anything.

I think if he feels good physically he would want to return.

I think he could still help this team on the field.

he costs too much money to be a back-up - 2.5 million needs to be spent elsewhere - a new head coach will bring the leadership that Emmitt supposedly brought to this team - he should be a goner and if this team was serious about winning - it would be the first hard move it would have to make - but that's what good teams do - they make tough moves - hell - look at the Cowboys - HIS TEAM - even they realized they needed to cut him because his salary was too large.

Good organizations make tough decisions - and to me - this ain't even that tough of a call in strictly football terms - the guy is a back-up 35 year old RB who plays with a similar style to the guy in front of him - money needs to be spent elsewhere.

They might want to draft a back and then Emmitt would have to leave the roster.


If I remember, last season they had cap space and no one to spend it on.

his contract isn't all that bad, we got cap relief because he qualified for some veterans exemption. I think he only counts like 1.5 against the cap, if he retired we'd take a hit, but his bonus counts less than his salary so the net is a gain in caproom, think it's about 500K.

With Anderson's terrible accident it might change things, right now Scobey would be the backup.

That would suck. I have to admit after his injury it seemed the whole "Emmitt still a Cowboy" wore off, and it finally felt like he was a Cardinal.
I think he helped this team a lot this year. Not with action but with his words and experience.

It would be nice for him to come back.

The Cards need to release Emmit and save the cap space. When you only win 4 games there are more important things to worry about than an aging HOF running back that claimed his fame with the Cowboys. The Cardinals nor the new coach coming in owe anything to Emmit.

Emmit should be handled like Parcells handled him in Dallas, release him.

I don't know if Emmitt will choose to play or not next year, I do have a pretty good feeling that the decision will be his this time. The Cardinals' front office will not release him.

I think Emmitt brought more to the team this year than meets the eye. Would like to see him return but in a limited role.
