The only rankings that really matter is where you finish in the World Cup. Period.

Shzm, I am not talking about what points teams get and how that moves them up or down the rankings. I am talking about which teams are better. The US, IMO, is a better team than Japan. Switzerland played a crap England team (or one that performed crap - as has become the usual for them). They have a grand total of 5 points out of 15, their sole win coming against the might of Wales.

Dempsey is certainly better than Rodallega. He has been class in the Prem for a couple of years now. Falcao is class certainly.

Turkey - 'the rest of the tournament has gone as expected'. That's true, but it doesn't show that they are better than the US right now. They might have potential but they haven't shown anything to say they are a power now.

Anyone have a guess at why Ireland and the Socceroos are rated so high on both lists? I'm happy for mother Eire and love everything down-under, but those two really stuck out as surprises.

The only Aussies I can name are nearly pensioners or over-rated, and I haven't heard anything about Ireland to give me hope they can make a run in a tournament.

Ireland is in a 3 way tie for the lead in their qualifying group with Slovakia & Russia...that's really all I can come up with. As for the Aussies, not really sure.

England move up 2 places to #4 IN THE WORLD? What a joke! They're not even in the top 10. Top 20? MAYBE. I cannot at this time argue with our place...we need to legitimately earn our way up.

You realize those are from October of last year, right? No one has posted the new rankings.
They update that page every month, the link doesn't change. If there were a "worldwide tournament" tomorrow (how ESPN claims to rank the teams), would anybody pick Holland 10th after how big of a teamwide meltdown they had? Shades of 2010 WC France. Not sure what England's done to deserve moving up to 5th either.

Yeah, Italy proved that they are much better than where they are ranked after dismantling Germany. Seems like every tournament is the same with the Germans..."Exciting team...this team will win in the future for sure" but they don't seal the deal. In a way, they're becoming the European version of Argentina. Big names, no trophies.

England sucks. They've got no business in the top 15.

Don't get me wring, England could do a lot better, but I would be impressed if you could name me 15 teams that are clearly better (would beat) than England.
