There is a new mini series coming out on the Civil War called To Appomattox. I don't know if it covers the whole war, or the last campaign of the war, the Appomattox Campaign. Anyway, I am a huge US History buff especially from the 1600's until the end of Reconstruction. I can't read/learn enough about the Civil War. It's hard to find any amount of detail on this series. It is said to be like Band of Brothers and John Adams rolled into one. Either way I can't wait for this to come out!

The cast so far looks great. One small worry I have comes from this link:
http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2010/12/carl-edwards-to-star-in-hbo-mini-series.html

Namely using NASCAR drivers in roles. If they are the best guys for the job fine, but I highly doubt they will be the best.

As for the question of what exactly the series will cover the link says it is an 8 part series about the Battle of Appomattox.
Yeah it seems gimicky to have NASCAR and the Rascal Flatts affiliated with it as well. I saw that part about it being about Appomattox, but then I saw Stonewall Jackson's character cast who was killed well before Appomattox, unless they do flashbacks then it makes sense. It's just as well I don't think a large and complex topic like the Civil War can be adequately covered in 8 hours.

Gotta agree with this. And I am a former NASCAR junkie and now a casual fan.

Carl Edwards is cool and I think he'll be fine in the role. And, I don't doubt there will be other drivers that could be good as well (key word being "could.")

Just don't understand why they wanna target NASCAR drivers for a Civil War mini series. A special on prohibition I understand, but, eh, really?

I'm surprised to see Michael C. Hall as he's a Showtime actor. It's nice to see William Peterson doing something. I miss him on CSI.

So far the casting is terrific. John Scurti and Walt Goggins should do very well in those roles. Several of the Band of Brothers folks are reuniting. This will be great.

Everything I read so far has this coming out in 2013. It doesn't say when, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it coincide with the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few things coming out on the Civil War next year.

If thats the actual casting then it will cover more than just the events around Appomattox. A good amount of those people were either dead (Jackson), replaced (Meade, McClellan, Hooker) or busy burning down Charlestown (Sherman) by wars end.

Everything I read about it says it goes from the start of the Civil War to the end.
