I don't like Green. But who knows. I have no idea about difference in coaches.

I would like Lovie!

Peace

I doubt we'll get Green. I think the Raiders will make a big run at him once Callahan is fired.

I also expect us to not hire anyone this week.

it's called an educated guess based on past performance of the league. do you not ever try to figure out what is likely to happen in the future in order to best prepare for it, or do you just like to be surprised by anything good or bad that happens to come across your path? you just shrug and say, "well, couldn't have guessed that was gonna happen . . . "

Isn't that one of the main reasons Mac got his "walking papers"?

Not that he had the type of discipline problems that Green did in Minnesota, because Mac, Graves, and "the Bidwills" have made "character" a top priority.
But if the head coach can't "discipline" his team....why should he be retained if someone else has to "babysit" for him??????

BTW...I agree Demetrius Underwood has some serious mental problems. (and has for quite some time). If Green were such a wonderful "evaluator of talent", why did he draft him in the first place?

tango, no one denied that underwood had the talent, he did, in abundance, everyone was just scared off, rightly so, by his nutiness.

Green takes chances on talent. In my book, he is 2 for 3 and those two Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss are a real big 2!

My point was you never know what's going to happen between now and then. Hell, Suggs went from a sure Top 5 to #10 and look at the jumps guys like Robertson and Boller had in their draft status. I'm guessing one of those QBs will be there at #3 especially if Fitzgerald is in the draft. He's just too good for the Raiders to pass up with Rice and Brown nearly in wheelchairs.

My wish list of coaches:
1) Tom Coughlin, a guy who demands discipline from his players. He is about the anti-McGinnis, he will be coach first before he is anyones buddy. He won consistently with Jacksonville up until they ran in to injury and cap problems. He'll probably end up in New York though.

2) Dennis Green, he won consistently in Minnesota and is well respected throughout the league. His name will bring in good coaches and players. He also is rumored to have AZ at the top of his wish list(Miami was #1).

3) Jim Fassell, he is known as a developer of QBs and is very offensive minded. Another guy with a good reputation who earned even more respect by finishing out the season with New York even though he knew he was being fired(unlike Reeves).

4) Kirk Ferentz, I honestly don't know a lot about his background but just looking at the last 2 years and what he has done in Iowa is impressive. My guess is he would want to prove in the worst way he belongs as an NFL head coach and what greater challenege than turning the Cardinals into a winning franchise.

I'd like Nick Saban too but I don't think the Cardinals have a chance--he seems to be high up on a lot of teams wish lists. I want no defensive coordinators, none, I am tired of them.

i completely understand your point and here's mine: if these guys test out as top-5 picks they'll be gone by #3 b/c of the premium placed on top qbs. if they wash out and don't test out that high, then yeah, they'll drop, but if that's the case, i wouldn't want 'em anyway. so what i'm saying is, if they test out as good as we currently think they are, they'll be gone. i'm not contesting the fact that btwn now and then their stock may drop.

also, the raiders already have jerry porter, who i think will develop into an excellent wr, maybe even a worthy #1. do they drastically need another #1? maybe if they already had a qb of the future, but i'm not certain they are that sold on tuiasosopo. also, if they are, they'll trade with the 'skins or steelers who will take a qb. we won't trade up. if that happened, i think i'd pass out.

Zeno - I had originally had Coughlin #1 on my screen, but now believe he could be too much of a disaplinarian. I like Fassel and Green both. Fassell could well fit in here real well, offensively anyway.

To me, the Cardinals are the equivalent of a patient that needs emergency, radical lifesaving surgery. If I were the patient, I would want an experienced surgeon who has done the procedure before, not a resident or an intern, no matter how good his grades were in med school.

My criteria:

1.NFL head coaching experience

2. Someone who is familiar with taking a poor team and making it a good team

3. Someone who has proven to be a good evaluator of talent

4. Good X and O guy

Based on these, the only two possibilities are Green and Fassel. I prefer Green, but would be very happy with Fassel. Green has the edge as an evaluator of talent, Fassel the edge as an X/O guy.

Green is also attractive because he built the current Viking team (both personell and coaching) from a poor underachieving one under the same cash flow constraints that the Cardinals face until the MPF opens. He also has "gravitas" -- Dennis Green telling free agents that things are now different in AZ is infinately more beleivable than Graves saying the same thing.

The downside --like many successful people, he can alienate. People either love him or hate him. Charged with sexual harrasment in the past.

As for Fassel, personally impeccable. Not as much personel experience as Green, but the Giants under his tenure sure seemed to develop alot of young guys who could play -- (with the exception of WR). Great game planner who isnt afraid to take risks -- routed the (ironically) Green led Vikings in a playoff game by abandoning the conservative run oriented style that got them in the playoffs with a vertical passing game that stunned the Vikings. Fassel also has gravitas, but not as much a Green.

We all could nit pick these guys to death, but I would love to be talking three years from now about (in Green's case) about how getting to the playoffs two years in a row is great, but he needs to run a tighter ship.

This might be a Dungy / Gruden thing -- Dungy got the Bucs to where they were winning consitently and going to the playoffs, but couldnt go all the way. I hope the Cards are grappling with that problem in a few years.

I heard the Fassell to Buffalo thing on ESPN as a possibility.

Now that--

Steve is gone in Wash. Look for Sly Snyder to throw the Bling at Fassal. I hope the Cards move fast who ever they decide on. Have the plan in hand!!

I think every coach in the NFl is very, very weary of Snyder. He'll offer the $, but all HC's will be getting good offers.
